Gelato Boy — Restaurant in Boulder

The gelato was tasty but the experience was very unpleasant. The two young ladies working began closing up / cleaning up around 7:40 and the store closed at 8. We asked if they were still open and they begrudgingly said yes. We asked for affogato and they said no because they had just turned off the machine. We asked for a waffle cone and got a sugar cone. Then we continued to eat our gelato outside where we saw them rudely turn down customers because they were close to closing and asked us to leave the outdoor seating area. That is absolutely understandable, but again, it would have been nice if they would have told us to sit on another bench and that they would be packing it up for closing. We understand that people may need to leave early or may be in a rush to close down, however, they should have just informed us that they were closing early and service wasn’t available than act annoyed for patronizing the business. Me and my wife have been regulars for a while, but it’s been slipping. We asked if the manager was around since the staff seemed distracted and no one greeted us. One of them called for the shop supervisor in the back, and we could see they were playing games or something in the back. She eventually came out, clearly not engaged. Her eyes were glazed over, and she didn’t look at us when she asked, “What can I get you?” It felt like we were bothering her. It’s a shame because we used to love this place, but the staff and supervisor seem completely checked out. Maybe it’s time for them to bring in new leadership to get things back on track. Got the warm waffle with hazelnut chocolate. Pretty good and everyone seemed happy with their choices too. The staff was overly disinterested/bored borderline rude. Normally I don’t care, but my wife took it personally. I’ve run/worked in food service before and would never ever treat customers with a cold expressionless face. But honestly, I think I’m just spoiled now since everyone in Denver/boulder is so friendly!! So when someone acts normal, it seems rude ?! Not totally sure, but it’s an easy fix with staff training.
