I wish our experience was as good as all of the 5 star reviews but unfortunately wasn't. When we arrived, there was only 1 other table dining and was immediately greeted with water. We ordered the vegetable pakora, but they didn't have it so we got the chicken pakora instead. I ordered the paneer saag and a sweet tea and my boyfriend ordered the mushroom saag and a sprite. The server came back with chai tea (shame on me for thinking it was sweetened ice tea but I think they need to specify this on the menu). My boyfriend drank it since I'm not a fan. It took a very very long time for any refills of water. There was only one server working but there was hardly anyone there. They did start to get busy once our dinner came out. The Naan was super flavorful and yummy (hence the 2 stars) but both of our saag was completely flavorless. There was no seasoning, not even salt. We decided to get everything to go and bring it home to "fix" it. Our server wasn't anywhere around. We waited about 15 minutes before my boyfriend found him at the front and asked for boxes to go.
I can be forgiving of being short staffed and the wait but I can't be forgiving of the lack of refills or the lack of flavor. Maybe we caught them on a bad night but unfortunately we...
Read moreFood/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - flavor profile is focused on acidity and spiciness so very different from other food we have. Rice was tough and not cooked all the way through but was herbed/spiced so it had interesting flavors
Sampler MOMOs had thick dumpling wrapper The fillings are similar so we weren't quite sure which was which. The sauce was very spicy so it masks all flavors as well
Shaptak is sliced beef wok fried with peppers in a spicy sauce. And indeed it was extremely spicy! Unfortunately, the cuts of meat were uneven which makes cooking it consistently difficult so there were some tough pieces. Bell peppers were also super uneven with two abnormally large pieces
Pork with mixed vegetables was with pork belly so it was very queasy. They do vegetables very well, but not the meat unfortunately
Ambience: N/A - nicely decorated but we ordered food to go
Service: 5/5 - polite and quick service. Her quote of 20 minutes was fairly accurate. The to go food was very hot and was still warm when we ate
Value for price: 2/5 - interesting to try as it's a different flavor profile than we're used to. Too salty and spicy for our enjoyment and...
Read moreLittle Tibet has been one of my favorite restaurants in the past but is currently Tibetan in name only. Everyone who works there including the owner is now Nepalese. The current cook has a tendency to make everything hot whether or not it should be. I learned from my Indian roommate in 1985 how to make dal Dal isn't supposed to be a hot food but when I got it with a combo in January, it was so hot that it have me heartburn. It actually had a chili pepper stuck in it. I consider the quality of the momos has also suffered aesthetically because when I recently ordered them, they were formed using the quicker clamshell form rather than the spiral form of closure which my Tibetan relatives use. The restaurant has always been understaffed throughout the time of it's 3 owners with normally only one wait person during slow periods. I have to credit the Nepalese. for trying to do well in offering 3 varieties of ethnic food - Tibetan, Indian, and Chinese in a field where the financial rewards...
