Update:
I used to come here almost every day for the past five years and always enjoyed the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Sadly, those days seem to be over. The prices have steadily increased, and they’ve done away with what was once a simple courtesy—offering at least one free refill.
On my last visit, I spent $30 on coffee and pastries. When I asked for a second cup, I was flatly denied because I brought my own cup instead of using theirs. I mentioned that for years, staff had always honored at least one refill (some even provided unlimited refills), but the response I got was dismissive at best. When I asked if they could make a concession given my loyalty and recent purchase, I was told by the manager, “We’re not going to succumb to being guilted into giving you a free cup of coffee.”
That level of customer service speaks volumes. This place used to be about community and hospitality. Now, it’s clear they’d rather nickel and dime their regulars than foster goodwill. If you’re looking for a warm, welcoming café, you might want to look elsewhere.
(Once was) a Hidden Gem in North Boulder - Spruce Confections.
Nestled amidst the charming streets of North Boulder, Spruce Confections is a delightful haven that captures the essence of community and warmth. Just a short stroll from home, the journey to this quaint café treats you to breathtaking views of the mountains peeking through the buildings and trees, setting the perfect backdrop for a leisurely morning or afternoon.
From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by the kind and attentive staff who quickly make you feel like part of the family. Their genuine interest in getting to know you adds a personal touch that elevates the entire experience.
But what truly steals the show are their heavenly pastries, freshly made each day to perfection. Indulging in one of their delectable treats is nothing short of a culinary delight. And paired with their delicious coffee, it's a match made in heaven. My go-to choice is the drip coffee, which comes with a refill at an incredibly reasonable price of around $3.25 - a steal in Boulder.
What sets Spruce Confections apart is not just its exceptional offerings, but the sense of belonging it fosters within its community. Whether you're a regular or a first-time visitor, there's an undeniable charm that keeps drawing you back. And with access to hiking trails just minutes away, it's more than just a café; it's a destination that invites you to savor every moment.

Read moreAs a resident of the neighborhood for many years, I have to just have to cut this place off!! While the patio is alluring, it just isn't worth the snarky service and average coffee drinks.
In case a manager reads this or someone related to the shop that cares, in the service world, when you make a mistake, overcharge and under-give your customer, you then offer your customer an apology --- even if it is under a dollar's worth mistake correction of the problem by giving the customer what he/she paid for! offer their money back All of the above perhaps???
I have been here many times-- always been a disappointment. Today I went in for a coffee with my own travel mug. I ordered a 12 ounce (since my mug UP TO THE TOP is a 12 oz) and was poured a coffee that barely filled halfway of my cup. Maybe 8oz?? I thought to ask for a little more, but decided fine, I don't need so much today! It rung up as $2.65 which sort of shocked me. Wow. I paid and then a few minutes later checked out their price chart. They discount you .15 cents for your own mug. AND the 16ounce coffee is $2.65 with tax. Humpf. So I was charged $2.65 for a 16 oz when what I got was barely an 8 oz in my own mug. So I asked the cashiers. Explained I ordered 12 oz in my mug and was charged 2.65. The gentleman was curious and a little confused at first. The woman at the cashier was annoyed and UNAPOLOGETIC as I tried to clarify the situation. I was not intending to get "something" just wanted to know if in fact I was OVERCHARGED AND UNDER-GIVEN -- for future reference.
Cashier lady went on to say she charged that amount because it was "that was a really big mug". I explained cheerfully it is a 12 oz. She said "Oh sure well, if you got less IN IT, then I could charge you less and charge you for a 12 oz." Wait, charge me for a 12 oz IN MY OWN 12 OZ MUG but give me less? That's all because she thought the mug was LARGER and dismissed my comment that IT IS IN FACT a 12 oz. Hmmm. So with her eyes rolling, I thanked them both and went on my way. Filed that away as my final experience no matter how alluring the outside patio is. So, total rip off and terrible experience. AGAIN. The coffee and...
Read moreNot only does Spruce Confections have yummy food (burritos, sweet confections) and delicious drinks (coffee, juices, etc.); every Sunday from 9:30-11:30 there is joyful music in the sweet courtyard on the side. A great band—string instruments and singing—has been playing for the last 15 years (and who I just recently discovered). Old time jazz and tunes that make your feet tap and your head nod. Great folks and fun atmosphere!
Following is the Spruce Confections off of North Broadway, In Boulder
This tiny, intimate Cafe reminds me of something from a movie of a place that was in the middle of nowhere, even though this is surrounded by all kinds of sweet little shops for coffee and pastries, etc.
My friend chose this place because she says they have the best pastries around. I chose a shortbread cookie with chocolate chips that was as tasty and fresh as it sounds.
The art on the walls are done by a local artist and the oil paintings pop out with vibrancy that welcome you into the tiny little shop.
The employees are decorated with tattoos and friendly and helpful, especially since we blew in from the street on a very blustery day!
I could’ve easily spent the entire morning there and crowds of people entered and left and with the atmosphere, so entirely comfortable, like you’re sitting in your best friend’s kitchen, chatting to save the world with your best friend over Blueberry tea.
You are saving yourself as your friend saves herself, which really is the beginning of a great relationship with the Earth, time and...
