Their menu is NOT all day. Just a heads up because it’s not posted on Google OR on their main page of their website, and I drove 30 minutes out of my way (one way) to support the business and get a toastie. I’m Celiac so finding a place that’s dedicated gf (wooo hoo!) - I couldn’t tell you business I would want to support more, but please update your website so others can make an informed choice about if this will meet their needs ❤️ had I known my item wasn’t available when I wanted to eat, I just wouldn’t have drove out of my way for it and decided to come another time.
I don’t do a lot of sweets anymore and get nauseous with too much egg or grease, so I researched and knew what I wanted before getting in my car. I arrive, wait my turn and the employee tells me I can’t order a toastie for another 20 minutes. By this time, I am the only customer and sit down. That’s the amount of extra time I had given myself for cushion for my next appointment. So I had a critical decision, go without food until who knows when I could find another gf option that wasn’t a pastry OR prioritize my health and sacrifice my appointment. So I did sacrifice my appointment hoping this toastie and Mac and cheese would just rock my world and be worth missing my plans. And the food just didn’t rock at all. The bread had nice flavor, but I didn’t love the texture and didn’t care for the mac and cheese at all - dense and congealed together noodles in one big ol’ clump. $20 plate for that too.
Maybe I should have made myself sick on sweets instead; the pastries did look fluffy and very well made, and one guest bragged on the bagel while I was coming in.
I will not be returning but encourage others to try other items and am glad there is a celiac safe...
Read moreI ordered the vegetarian sandwich, upgraded the included chips to the mac n cheese, and a vanilla & salted caramel cupcake. I also ordered a cinnamon roll and fireside latte for the drive home, and when I told the owner that this food (meaning the entire meal) was in the top 3 best foods I'd had in my entire life, I meant it. On my drive home, I realized it was the number 1 spot. It's so difficult to find gluten free food where I live (my husband and I were traveling several hours from home and decided to stop here for lunch), so I was super excited to see a dedicated gluten free restaurant. I had to fight back my initial urge to order my sandwich "with no bread" because I'm just so used to having to do that in regular restaurants. I have been to NYC and had gluten free food...it was good, but, Awaken is phenomenal! My husband, who is not gluten free, thought the food was great too! He ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and a chocolate cupcake. I wish I had taken pictures of everything we ordered, but I was too excited and hungry to do that. The owner and worker with her are really nice and the bakery is super clean. It's a great place...
Read moreWhen it comes to food, I come from a very spoiled home with many amazing cooks. I have had some of the worlds best treats! Just in the last few years I have had to be gluten-free. This place is amazing! One of the best sandwiches ever. Seriously one of the best cinnamon rolls (my grandma would be proud) even when not considering that they are gluten free (and I got the frozen one not the fresh because they only make those on weekends). Super impressed with the very friendly people and beautifully clean place where everything is very well presented and it shows how much EVERYONE loves their food by how little they have left at the end of the day. They even prepared with extras in the freezer for the late comers like me so that I could still have what I came for!!! Totally recommend for a special trip to come as far as you have to (it’s an hour for me) and enjoy lunch and deserts and bring a cooler bag and take a bunch home to stock up for later!!!😀. Kentucky needs more of this! You will NOT be...
