We went to South 9th Bistro to celebrate my birthday, from first impressions, to our exit, everything was amazing! It truly was the best culinary experience I have had in the western region of the lower 48 states to date. Fresh cut roses, beautiful french artwork and warm decór, truly made the ambiance! I ordered the truffle mushroom risotto, and our guests order a ribeye, scallops, a lamb shank, and the halibut. Having a gluten allergy, some restaurants are really difficult to work around regarding their menu (or even cross contamination) but it was so pleasing to see a flourless dessert, and to know that the preparation of the food was a priority, as well as the culinary preferences of their customers. The staff was so friendly, the menu had a variety of different options and flavors, and I cannot wait to go back again! Thank you, Hank, and the entire South 9th Bistro, for your exceptional service, care, and yummy cuisine!

Great food, and solid service. Boyfriend and I had anniversary plans here, but I definitely encourage reservations. I watched at least 3 parties get turned away before we were sat. My only (small) complaint was the seating. I'm not a fan of sliding into a booth when wearing a fancy dress and heels. But not all tables had booth seating, so I imagine it's an easy work around. (Pictured: Coquilles St. Jaques, Lamb shank, and the crab cake appetizers (we requested these come out with the entree)).

The dinner lighting in this residential scale bistro is very pleasant. The food at our table of 4 included tender lamb shank, black truffle N Y steak, seafood ravioli, and beef bourguignon. All amazing, as well as the accompanying potatoes, mushroom risotto, and vegetables. The hearty meal was topped off with a flourless chocolate torte that my companions devoured happily. Our waitress embraced our quirkiness, and helped make our evening a happy experience!

OUTSTANDING & EXCEPTIONAL ! Walked in with warm hospitality and eagerness to excel minded staff. Left in a EUPHORIC high ! My travel partner and I shared the perfectly cooked crab cakes and prosciutto wrapped scallops. Each came on a bed of baby arugula and their own delightful dressing/ramelaude. I do not care for arugula but LOVED it in these brilliant dishes/dressings. Next was the beet salad - again with arugula in the mixed greens but it worked so well with the dressing, goat cheese and beets. YUM The butternut squash ravioli was perfectly cooked and my first experience as a sweeter dish rather than savory squash ravioli. We shared the appetizer size since we were trying several dishes. Had it been just one main course it may have become too heavy to finish. We both found that each bite actually became more enjoyable than the first and second! Awe, the cognac marinated rib eye.. reminded us slightly of teriyaki but different. Loved the char and again... perfectly cooked to specification. The mac and cheese should be offered as a main course or appetizer... Rich, savory cheese flavor... but not heavy -DELISH !! Ended with the amazing banana bread pudding. Real banana flavor, not artificial and great texture and homemade salted caramel sauce. I enjoyed and highly recommend the Truchard pinot noir which for me paired from good to great with each course. FINALLY, the first experience walking into this establishment the matre d' was poised and very warm natured. I liked him ! Our waitress Lisa was a JOY !! She not only was incredibly patient with us but genuinely served us with a joyful heart and we felt privileged to have her. She made superb recommendations and I could not tell you that I have ever been given such wonderful service EVER. Perhaps the top 3 restaurant experiences of...

I have been to South 9th Bistro twice in the last month and loved it both times. There is a nice variety on the menu from seafood to meats to pasta. Everyone in our group (10 of us) raved about the food. Ingredients are fresh, preparation and presentation are superb, and the service is exceptional. I had the Pasta a la Mer one night and the Wild Salmon on the 2nd visit and both were terrific. I can hardly wait to go back and try something else. No one in our group had a complaint.

The wine list, while not exotic, is large enough and with enough variety to please most diners.

The restaurant is in a remodeled older home on the edge of a quiet residential area. Acoustic tiles and panels have been installed on the main level, so even on a busy night, it's not too noisy. There is also seating upstairs and a separate room which handled our party of ten perfectly.

There are many excellent restaurants in Bozeman, and I have been to almost all of them. South 9th Bistro, hands down, has the best food and service and is the best value in the area. It has instantly become my favorite restaurant in town.

I should add one more thing: When the owner says great food, great service, no excuses, he really means it. He takes a personal interest in the quality of the product he provides, checking on diners while they are in the restaurant, personally greeting customers at the door as well as thanking them as they leave. You will not be disappointed at...
