UPDATE: So, the last time we ordered deep dish, it apparently was not a good representation of their deep dish, bc we got their Tuesday special, which is a 10" deep dish w/2 toppings for $12 plus tax, and... My oh my! It was cut into 4 pieces and one (little) piece was plenty for each of us, so we each got 2 meals out of it (we don't eat a lot, but certainly 2 people could share this easily). This one had a thicker crust than the last time (it still went up the side) and was topped with cheese and the sauce was on the top, like a true Chicago deep dish. Now I remember Gino's East. It's been 30-35 years since it's been there, so... You forget things. We're definitely going to be enjoying the Tuesday special for a while. They have other great specials, too. A different one each day of the week. I'm glad we gave the deep dish a second chance! ......... PAST REVIEW We usually order over the phone and get a stuffed crust pizza and we usually have no problems and LOVE it.
Last time we ordered online and ordered a deep dish pizza. We're not impressed with their flippin' online ordering process! First, we filled out ALL the information and pressed "order", but it refused to accept our order until we created an account. We really didn't WANT to create an account, but ok, fine. We gave them our name, address, phone number, & email address... And a bloody password, even though I don't care what it is, bc I swear we will NEVER order online again. Then, they insisted that we add our credit card to our account. Don't companies realize that people don't want to keep their credit card information in their database because their bloody databases keep getting hacked and our information gets stolen all the time. I also don't want to have to remove my credit card from your web page. That shouldn't be my problem. I shouldn't HAVE to store ANY of my information in your database to order a flippin' pizza. When I went to checkout, all the blanks were there for me to fill out without having to "log in", why couldn't I have just finished checking out without making an account?
The deep dish pizza arrived and I expected the crust to be, well, deep, but it wasn't. It was a thin crust that just had an end crust that obviously went up the side of the pan. 🤦🏻♀️ I had been thinking of PAN crust. That's NOT what deep dish is. Now, they also have a thin crust. I'm trying to figure out what that would be compared to this... The same thing without the extra crust "handle"?
When we opened the box, 1/4 of the pizza had slid under part of the other pizza. It tasted pretty good. I still like the stuffed crust better, and when we order from Joey D's again, we will be calling our order in and ordering the...
Read moreI must first admit, I am somewhat of a Chicago sports fan, so my opinion my have been swayed by the atmosphere. Sports decals, replicas, & memorabilia, are what for at catches your eye, the place is stacked with Chicago sports history. I’m guessing that is due to the fact that the owners were at one time, professional athletes themselves. Which, the hostess informed me. A testament to the perseverance of the family. You need not worry about what game to watch, there is a bevy of televisions surrounding the entire restaurant, which also offers an outdoor deck for additional seating. I was seated promptly, facing a big screen which displayed the Mavericks, Bulls game on T.V., that evening. The waitress arrived a moment later, knowledgeable of the menu, she recommended Mac n cheese bites for an appetizer, which I couldn’t resist, my childhood favorite, nostalgia is always a plus while dining. The bites arrived, steaming, about seven minutes later, I decided on chicken Parmesan, with spaghetti. I know, the place has a reputation for pizza, but I enjoy a nice pasta from time to time... The Mac bites were superb, also a nice portion which surprised me for the price. I waited about another fifteen minutes for the pasta, which is fine, the place was packed, which I’m told is normal operating procedures at the place... The staff handled it well though from what I perceived... The game was close, the bulls have been rebuilding since the tragedy that befell Derrick Rose, so it’s hard to hold high expectations right now, but DALLAS is a strong team this year, so it was nice to see them compete. The chicken was plentiful, marinara sauce aplenty, the pasta was al dente, which I enjoy hailing from an Italian background... I finished, paid my bill, and watched the rest of the game, after releasing my seat to another couple. I walked to the patio, ordered a beer, and sat down to finish the game... A beautiful evening, ended with the bulls pulling off the upset, good luck next time “Mark Cuban.” ) All in all I’d recommend Joey D’s to anyone who enjoys a good meal, and a...
Read moreI had family in from the Midwest and it was actually on a bears day when they were playing football, so there were screens all over the restaurant, had multiple football games on, the atmosphere was awesome. The food was one of the biggest pizzas I’ve ever seen we ordered a large pepperoni and it was layered with several layers of pepperoni, cheese, pepperoni, cheese, pepperoni, cheese, and a heavy amount of sauce. The waitress that we had was absolutely top-notch checking on our needs every few minutes refilling our drinks a couple times and making us feel very comfortable. Excellent service. I would recommend this pizzeria to anybody and bring your appetite because the pizzas are huge they bring a tray out and put the pizza on a tray on your booth or table. We went at a very busy time and had no idea. But even with that, it was a great experience. I give them five stars all around some of the best pizza I’ve ever had, Chicago style thick and it is thick. I could only eat about two pieces and I was stuffed and for a big man that is saying a lot. The atmosphere is really great, we asked the waitress to take pictures and she did and gave us such great service. I wish I could remember her name. I’m sure she is a staple of this location. Excellent excellent excellent server and host they make you feel so comfortable and welcome. Five stars all...
