Poppo's Taqueria — Restaurant in Bradenton

Took my grandson who loves true Mexican food, I've never had nything but tacos from chains, but this was so different, excellent, the guacamole was so fresh and so delicious west of the Florida line taste throughout and the red onions just made it creamy avocado just made it unbelievably delicious and they're soft tortillas we're heated up just to perfection and you got to chose what you wanted in your burrito or taco or whatever it is you watered and it add a NeverEnding amount of choices and it was the day before I left and my grandson was not aware that I did not have the money to buy his lunch sell my daughter did but he so enjoyed it as did I I never had anything real Mexican like that before except as I said a taco chain which is all over the world and I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about well this one was so different and so full of many different fillings to put in your burritos or your tacos I got a taco that I couldn't close because I chose so many so I ended up putting less choice in the taco and getting the bowl and inside the bowl there was ground meat and there was chicken which was absolutely to die for, there was olives there was guacamole there was sour cream there was cheese there was four different kinds of cheese there was fed up there was I'd be better off saying what wasn't there it was absolutely delicious absolutely delicious I wish we had something like that and I'll state New York it was the very first time that I had true Mexican food no actually the second time my daughter and her fiance took me to a real Mexican restaurant the first time I was there out to dinner and I had the most delicious dinner Mexican dinner that I've ever eaten in my life and my son-in-law ordered a rabbit dish and we got an extra plate and he gave me part of his and that was so delicious and my granddaughter audit something different totally and did the same we kind of shared everything except I didn't know what to get so I just got a taco or burrito I forgot because that's all I knew to get I didn't know anything about any Mexican food not true Mexican food, and she got a special Mexican dish that was also to die for about Papa's was the best lunch place for a real Mexican food that I have ever tasted. I am sure that there are other places that have good Mexican food but I am so used to a taco chain that's all over the world that the bowl and I got the large bowl and wow was there a lot in that bowl and the fact that they had so much to pick from to make it even better I had black beans and refried beans and guacamole and something else I don't know what it was called and cilantro and lime and rice oh yeah the rice at the bottom of the bowl was the best rice I ever tasted and then the chicken was fabulous and the ground meat the beef was awesome and the pork oh I forgot about the pork was delicious and it must have been a smoked real pig because it had the Crunchies on it and the avocado and the sour cream wasn't the kind that you buy at the grocery store it was real sour cream and that jalapenos we're so different then anything I've ever had and they weren't real hot and the salsa the salsa I forgot about the salsa it was out of this world Papa's you got...

My wife placed a takeout order while on our way home. I ordered a burrito and she ordered a bowl with sauce on the side. I arrived at the time it was suppose to be done and it was ready to go. Arrived home to find we had a burrito, a side of sauce and a half filled small plastic container that we guessed was her bowl, no fork or anything in the bag. Both of us were blown away at the portion she received both were $9.25 each, there was no way what was in my burrito was going to fit in that container. I decided to go back to the store to see what could be done. When I approached the counter I explained to the person standing there that something didn't seem right. Immediately he and some woman that I thought was waiting for food pounced that that was what she ordered and that was their portion size. They could add more "stuff" that my wife didn't want to make it bigger. They stated that my burrito was bigger because I ordered more stuff inside, no way cilantro and pico make up that much of a difference. I worked in food service for years, as you add more "stuff" you cut the portions of each item, larger portions on fewer items, so the end result is a meal even if someone only orders a few items. They shoot for a 30% food cost for this reason. The bigger problem was the horrific customer service, very defensive to the point she told me when I own a restaurant and understand how much food is I would understand why they portion that way. Ordered food from the Poppo’s restaurant website and selected the delivery option, ordered food and the final bill came out to ~$85 which seemed ridiculous for 2 burritos, a bowl and a few kids quesadillas. The order came without the burrito which was annoying but I called and had the first guy I spoke to hang up on me after I explained the situation then I called back and got a girl who said the burrito was there for me when I came back (even though I paid extra for delivery and a driver tip) which I also explained and she said they don’t do delivery (even though I selected delivery from their website and paid extra for this) so I asked for the manager and she said he’s going to tell me the same thing which was correct, he argued with me about it that I’d have to come get it or they could refund the missing items… which was fine I guess but I’d still have to wait for another order not to mention the delivery fee and driver tip was almost $20 alone. They shouldn’t offer delivery on their website if it’s actually through another service. He said he can’t do anything about their system… Finally he said he’d refund the order which would take a few days… I appreciate that solution I guess as now I have to go find food somewhere else after everyone else’s here ate their food. I’ll update the review if it refunds and hopefully I don’t have to call to argue again with someone about it. The food is good but after this experience I’ll be looking for someplace else...
