We went in with our neighbors, as we've never been, and thought it would be nice to patronize a locally-owned establishment. Good intentions, bad idea....
[Full disclosure: I never bother to write these reviews, but this instance warranted doing so.]
It all started out reasonably, and went downhill from there. We had two people attending to us...perhaps a busboy, and a waiter. The waiter seemed attentive and nice enough, but the busboy was about as abrasive as one could possibly tolerate. He seemed irritated that he actually had to attend to us.
Onto the food: one person had the burger....they forgot the sliced onion....not a big deal. I had a "grilled chicken breast" sandwich. What I got was likely a 3 oz. piece of chicken pounded (likely with a sledgehammer) into some irregular 'patty' in some areas 1/4" thick, and others 1/2" thick. It took up about 60% of the roll real estate. It was seasoned with "Boston" seasoning. Quite frankly, it really sucked.....dry and flavorless, and there was way more roll than chicken.
My wife had a "sliced steak" sandwich that looked like some chunks of chuck steak thrown on a hoagie roll. It was supposed to have a "Bordelaise sauce".....nope. She ate half; we took the other half home, and she threw it in the trash can before we went inside the house. The other diner had one of the "specials" - lobster ravioli with a "cream" sauce. The cream sauce was something like nacho cheese sauce. It was really pretty pitiful. The wait staff seemed perturbed that she didn't like it.
On to dessert.....the guys didn't want dessert, so the waiter took the orders of the ladies, telling them that one of the selections was not available....no biggie, OK, so they ordered something else. After waiting 20 minutes for the desserts arrive, the waiter was summoned and then told us one of the other selections that were ordered was not available either. We punted, that was enough.
Gordon Ramsey would have a real challenge on his hands with this...
Read morePerfect example of "Don't judge the book by its cover"!!! I especially like to give my money to small businesses, so while staying in Branchburg, New Jersey, we looked for a small, cozy restaurant. There's not much around to choose from, I found Thirty's, me not being a drinker thought right away, ugh, not sure if this is a good place to go, but I looked at the reviews and they were pretty impressive so we decided to give it a shot... Well, this is a very cool place, actually. Good music and not too loud, just enough to be pleasant. There's a good amount of booths, an area with just tables and the bar area that looked like just a bunch of friends spending time together, eating and talking. The service was very pleasant. Our server was David, and he was very polite, with good suggestions and great service. The food was AMAZING!!! We chose as appetizer, the Japanese shrimp, the sauce is so delicious, and shrimp cooked just right. We got a basket of bread, and we ended up dipping our bread in the sauce. For entrées we got the Grilled Samon and the Seared Tuna. I was so impressed. My tuna was cooked perfectly, and so were the veggies. The dishes were beautifully put together. A very high-end restaurant could serve these dishes just like that. For dessert, we got the Hazelnut truffle, which was very good as well. Last but not least, I have to say that I got a lemonade, which a lot of times is terrible no matter where you go. Usually extremely sweet and tasting like cheap powder drink, well this was also a big surprise to me, it ltasted like homemade lemonade., just perfect. The prices were great as well. We had the best time and felt so good about this choice. We will for sure come back. The best of luck for the owner of this great...
Read moreA friend and I were headed to Wolfgang''s for a great steak dinner. I thought about the outrageous dollars to be spent there for two dinners. The average would be two-hundred (200.00) - two-hundred & fifty (250.00) Plus tip. So, instead I Googled other places.
Numerous other places popped up. I read the all of the reviews. It was "KOOL" to read other's reviews. Thirsty's stood out.. So, I said, "Let's try it!!
WOW!! Thirsty's was a pleasant surprise... The food, service, employees and Owner (Peter) were very welcoming as first timers.
The appetizers are plentiful and delicious. In fact, I ate half of the Calamari before I remembered to take a picture of the food. Sorry about that!! It was to delicious not to dig in right away. In addition, the food came out quickly and the portions were outstanding.
My main course was a Marsala Ribeye. I love Ribeye and Marsala so, this was an irresistible combination. It didn't disappoint. YUM!! I almost forgot, the bar has a great selection too...
The "BIGGEST" surprise was when the bill came. Just imagine this: 1) 2 Steak Dinners; 2) Appetizers; 3) 2 Drinks; 4) 2 Deserts and 5) 20% Tip all for under one-hundred (100.00) dollars. An "Amazing" Experience!!
Thirsty's is easy to visit. It's right off the highway and has ample parking. I will be visiting again soon. I keep thinking about another great full course dinner. Visit soon.
