Drive west on 76 through Branson West and there's a huge billboard, turn right for Mexican Place A. Right after that billboard, there's another that instructs, turn left for Tequila's Mexican Restaurant. There's a little Mexican Food battle going on in Branson West and I love it. I've been to the other Mexican Place, which will remain unnamed in this review, but you can go see my review - if you figure it out.
I walked in to Tequila's and was seated immediately. A server pointed to a table for me to sit at. Chips and salsa were on my table within 30 seconds. Server came over and got my drink order while I reviewed the extensive menu. They were not super busy, but while I was there more people arrived and it got more jovial.
I love carne asada, and that's become my "go to" dish in a new Mexican restaurant to test their quality and style. Ordered a Michelob Ultra and the carne asada. Beer was not super cold when it arrived. I saw the server carrying a new six-pack from another location. Must have been out and needed more, which is why it took 5 minutes to get a beer. #NotMad
Food arrived and the carne asada was four, super-thin slices of overcooked, hard-to-slice meat. Not sure if I was that at a bad time or what, but it was not very good compared to other carne asada I've ate. The steak was overcooked and was just okay, not the juicy, flavorful carne I'm used to. The beans and rice were fine. Tortillas were great and there was some avocado on this side. Presentation was great.
My server asked if I wanted the hot sauce and I said yes. A few minutes later, he came out with a bowl of fire. It was salsa macha. Lots of chile paste in oil and very hot.
The servers where talking a lot with the locals who were regulars. That's always a good sign.
Tequila's is in an easy-to-get-to strip mall next to a coffee shop. Service was great. Food was okay. Would go back and try something else one day, however. Seems like nice people who run...
Read moreI generally dont leave bad reviews, but Google asked for it so here we go. I came here for lunch with my dad. There was one other couple in the restaurant so they weren't very busy. To say we were unimpressed was an understatement. The food was okay. But our server was pretty rude. It felt like he was annoyed we were there. It was a very odd environment. When we were able to order, we let the waiter know that I was allergic to cheese and to please not put any on my meal. It was clarified many times. But then when the food came out it was covered in cheese sauce. When I explained the issue to my waiter, he didn't say anything but just picked up the plate and walked back with it.. When he came back with a new one he put it in front of me without saying a word. It felt like he was angry at me for telling him about the error. He then left our table and didn't come back. We had to get up and ask for the check. I know things are stressful right now. The pandemic has made everyone short staffed and it is a hard time in our country. But, I really don't think these issues should have occurred. I understand messing up an order, but don't be rude about it when the person politely asks you to fix it. If you have any type of allergy, I wouldn't...
Read moreWe had dinner there on Sunday 9/20/20. We hadn't tried it in over 10 years even though we live close, so we thought we'd give it another chance.
I had their 4 enchilada dinner: ground beef, shredded beef, cheese, and spinach. I was shocked that it didn't come with a little beans and rice.
The only cheese was inside the cheese enchilada. There was no traditional melted layer of hard cheese on top of any of them.
The red sauce was not the common kind. It was tomato sauce with a little coloring in it so it wouldn't be obvious. It was not good around enchiladas, but would have made a decent bowl of tomato soup.
The meats were good, but tough in all but the ground beef. The chicken was even tough. My wife said it's from overcooking.
There was absolutely no seasoning in anything. I like the flavor of chili powder in sauce and meat- not too hot but flavorful.
The food was holsum and plentiful, but flavorless. They need a good Mexican cook!
Oh, the margarita had very little tequila in it. There was no usual aftertaste of it.
If we're living, we'll try it again in another 10...
