We had a great dinner here.

Shrimp & Grits - $19.75. The shrimp & grits were excellent. The grits were cheesy enough to add flavor but not so much that they felt heavy or greasy. The sausage and shrimp added bursts of savory flavor with each bite. Highly recommended.

Seafood Gumbo (bowl only) - $11.50. Served piping hot with an excellent seafood flavor that blended together perfectly. It was very salty but also very tasty. If it was less salty, it would be a perfect bowl of gumbo. Still, I’d get it again.

Fried Mullet Dinner - $15.95. The fried mullet was good. It had a fine, stringier flesh with some chew compared to cod or even catfish. The flavor was good—not muddy like some catfish can be. It was served as individual filet portions and a separate backbone. They were all breaded in cornmeal and deep-fried. Served with tartar sauce and a lemon wedge. After eating the fillets, I ate the backbone by removing a sliver of the edge (which had small pin bones) and pulling the meat off the spine.

Hushpuppies (side). Amazing. They had a thin, crispy crust and a soft, fluffy interior with bits of sweet corn kernels and red peppers. They tasted like seafood and were wonderful overall.

Fried Okra (side). Tender and crunchy with no stringiness.

Mixed Vegetables (additional side) - $3.25. Likely boiled or steamed. The cauliflower was mushy and bland but went great with the salty gumbo. The broccoli stems at the bottom of the bowl had more flavor, seasoned with lemon pepper.

Overall, everything tasted good, and the variety of flavors worked well together. I would definitely jump at the opportunity to eat here again.

I came in last night and ordered over $20 in food to go. I ordered the mullet dinner and a side of lemon pepper wings. I was told that it would take about 15 minutes for my order to be ready so I walked to the store and came back which took me about 20 minutes if that. I got home and my fish was still good and warm and everything else except my wings were ice cold. I called the restaurant and made them aware and they told me they would write my name down and I could come back another time. I called the next night which is today and advised that I will be coming from my order and that I still had the wings and my receipts and I will bring it back and I was told they couldn't do nothing because the manager was not here. at that point I just asked for a refund because I was upset that they couldn't just replace my wings without a manager. I then drove in which is about 10 or 15 minutes from my house and I was told by the manager on duty that they can't replace my food or give me a refund because the manager advised that it took me 40 minutes to come and get my food which is not true. How is it possible for my fish to still be warm and my chicken to be ice cold when I live 10 or 15 minutes up the street and if anything had it took 40 minutes my fish would have been ice cold before the chicken. The customer service is horrible at this restaurant I even left a tip and I didn't even sit down to eat. I will never return here again because customer service is everything so if you're willing to lose a customer over five...

My family & I went in with a group of our family visiting from out of town. We had bragged about the food and service from our previous visit to the fishing hole. This visit however was anything but brag worthy. The service was inattentive. We got sat by the bathrooms in a corner and that’s exactly how it felt, like we were shoved in a corner and forgotten. Perhaps this had something to do with the strong smell of marijuana that was Permeating through the back door covered by sheets and loud conversation and cussing coming from the group of people standing outback..The catfish my father in law ordered tasted foul and not fresh. The oysters were cold when we received them 20 minutes after ordering two portions as an appetizer, the calamari was soggy and didn’t taste fresh ( like it had been sitting for an hour or so). I ended up with two flies in my glass of Chardonnay & my daughter had one land in her shrimp and grits… when I addressed this with the waitress she told me that “ yeah we are working on it, it happens often, can I get ya anything else” we’ve always been the ones to support small businesses, however I feel the owners need to find a better group of people to run the show, because this was absolutely unacceptable especially considering that while yes it was kind of busy, there is no excuse for such poor dismissive service, poor quality of food at the price point, nor the bugs and smells within the restaurant. We will...

The location is a bit odd, and honestly the first time I came here with a colleague (her recommendation), I was a bit put off by this end-of-strip-mall, minimalist looking restaurant. Entering in, it's a quaintly-decorated place with a distinct New Orleans feel, with jazz playing through the speakers. The food here is excellent, the prices are good, and the service is wonderful. I came here from out of town, having been once before, and was disappointed to find the amazing shrimp and grits was a special of the day. One of the chefs from the kitchen personally came out to give me some recommendations because they knew I wasn't sure what to get - that's what I call service! So, I didn't quite get what I went in hoping for, but it was still good. The grouper was a lot.. softer than any other grouper I've had (and kinda broken apart - not beautiful) which was kind of off-putting, but the grits, coleslaw, and hush puppies were very good. I think I met every staff member during my meal (by my count, 5 different people came to assist me or check on me), which is both nice, and a bit much for this diner! When my plate got taken away while I was.still eating from it, I think that was a bit much, and then presented with the check without any option for dessert. Oh, and another person just came to take the check, so that makes 6 people 😂 Overall, good food, good (overly attentive) service, would go again.

Don't let the exterior dissuade you from giving this place a try. The food and inviting interior of this restaurant are incredible. I visited The Fishing Hole today a little after lunch. The staff was very friendly and happy. I started with the Fish Poppers. The server checked to make sure I was okay with spicy foods. They were surprisingly spicy, but not too much to handle. However, I believe that they would be too spicy for people sensitive to spicy foods. For the main course, I tried the Trigger Dinner with fries. The 8oz portion of fish came with a side of tarter sauce and 3 decent sized hush puppies. The fries were the additional side I selected. Before I describe the fish, I want to talk about the sides. The fries were crispy and flavorful, as good as anyone can expect fries to be cooked. The hush puppies were incredible, warm balls of corn flour fried with onions, peppers, and other spices. I really enjoyed them. I ordered the trigger fish blackened. The blackened seasoning was very flavorful and the fish was cooked well. The fish was fresh and tender. To finish the meal, I decided to order the Cream Cheese Pound Cake. I wound up consuming the whole, extremely generous serving. I was stuffed when I left and completely happy with my experience.
