I was highly disappointed and disturbed by my most recent experience with 5 companions. The food wasn't the problem. I ordered a drink which uses ginger beer and thought the ginger beer was flat. I sent it back and the waitress very nicely came back and suggested a different drink since the bottle for the ginger beer had just been opened. Very nice. When ordering one friend asked for a replacement side dish for gluten reasons and was offered spinach and asparagus. Very nice. My husband ordered medium rare lamb and when it came it was more rare than he could eat. He sent it back and it came back medium rare. And another friend also had her meat cooked too rare and when she sent it back, she asked for a replacement side because the mashed potatoes were too salty. When hers came back the waitress leaned in and said she was sorry that she could not replace the salty potatoes due to a price disparity between those and asparagus. We were all stunned. Our friend who received completely different response happens to be a person of color. Once we had confirmed what was said by the waitress, we quietly called her back to table. Our friend with gluten issues asked very nicely why she was treated one way when our other friend was not. The waitress apologized to our gluten free friend for any misunderstanding. She went on to say that asparagus costs more and left the table. To which we countered - the request was for a replacement side - not specifically for asparagus. She came over to our friend with the salty potatoes and said, I'm sorry that you were offended. I'm in the hospitality industry and I would never intentionally offend." It was clear my friend was losing her appetite. The waitress asked if she would like sauted spinach and my friend said yes. When she brought it back she leaned in and said - "Next time you need to ..." which was beyond the pale for all of us and she was cut off from continuing. Bringing food back to how it was ordered is not an opportunity to "correct" a customer, period. The burden to provide what was ordered and in a manner that is edible is on the restaurant. And considering how differently our friend was treated in exactly the same situation and truthfully was never given a sincere non-qualified apology, we ended our meal and left. It should be noted that our table was clearly in distress and at no time did the owners of the restaurant come over to relieve the distress of the table and the waitress. We were polite but this kind of discriminatory behavior is not something that could be overlooked. At this point, we will never be going to eat here again and we have shared this story to an entire campus of potential customers. Which if the price of asparagus was the issue, the loss of business...

Our first time in... Just a little off the beaten path, in what we were told was called the Lumber district we walked into the Bishop's domain. The first thing we noticed was the warm, playful atmosphere... this is obviously a restaurant where the locals feel at home.
Busy night, but the bar was right there, and the staff and patrons made us feel right at home. Waiting for our table was fun, as we discovered the cocktail menu... loaded with great, unique concoctions, all with their own stories, as we were introduced to the neighborhood.
The menu is creative and the dishes finished to perfection. Here are people at work who UNDERSTAND and LOVE their CRAFT! Gorgonzola Cream Gnocchi, Filet Meatballs, Artichokes, Smoked Kurobuta Pork Belly & Scallops... YES PLEASE! You can taste the playfulness and pride; local ingredients, unique combination, perfect execution and you can expect a big grin and smile when you tell chef Trey you appreciate his work.
If you can get to Brevard, visit this gem, and enjoy the creativity, the people and don't miss the...
Read moreWe were in town visiting Brevard, NC this past weekend. This restaurant was very close to where we were staying, talk about convenient. That's where the good things ended. We arrived with our party of 8 and were told by the first hostess, "we only seat tables of 6, sorry." I replied, we can split our group up into 4 and 4, to which she said no sorry we can't do that. What in the world?!?! The couple who were sat outside enjoying their meal were as completely dumbfounded as we were. We proceeded to walk away, when were met by their second hostess, after more confusion about seating, she explained she could seat us outside that they had room outside. Then, as if she was steering us away from eating there she saw we had four children ages 9 to 13 and stated they did not have a kids menu. She gave the menu to one of our kids, looking at him as if he wasn't going to like anything they served. We had had enough at that point, and told them no thank you. Never have I ever been to a place supposedly called the "Neighborhood Eatery" who was more inclined to dismiss a group of paying customers. Whether the food was good or not, we'll never know, but the service...
