By far one of my favorite eatting experiences during our week in and around Asheville. Brevard is a suburb of Asheville and apparently the only place where white squirrels live; we went for the annual white squirrel street festival (They are adorable!!) which far exceeded our expectations. We meandered into the Blue Ridge Bakery to grab a sandwich but found soooo much more including tabouli, Greek Almond Cookies (MY FAVORITE) and Spanikopita. Not only was ethic Greek food from my childhood unexpected, it was served in mamoth proportion at excellent prices and absolutely delicious!! I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with one of the owners and a retired professer from the local university. The owner's wife is Greek which explained the added bonus of those choices. This establishment and all others in Brevard support one another. The coffee and tea come from local businesses. We bought two more cookies before we left town and wish we'd gotten more. We'll...
Read moreGood morning. I am happy to know that Brevard college and the Blue Ridge Bakery appear to be ok. The Blue Ridge bakery is my favorite hang when I am there. There food is fantastic, wonderful vibe and yes, they have live Appalachian bluegrass music most often times during the day. I'm glad to know that they have survived the deluge onslaught. They are only minutes from the Pisgah Forest and not to far from the super scenic Blue Ridge Highway. They are also not very far from Asheville. I love this little cafe. I would go there every day when I was ensconced nearby in the park. People were friendly and welcoming. Their food was heavenly. This cafe was a hub for music artists from the the area. This cafe was a rare find for me. I recall thinking I had died and gone to heaven. I love West North Carolina. But now they have suffered greatly from the storm - some parts worse than others. They will rise again, stronger and better than they...
Read morePastry Perfection! My granddaughter and I had the delectable pleasure of picking out beautiful pastries last Friday. I chose the decadent brownie and my 3yo grand chose a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing garnished with a single pink pearl. I also chose a whole french silk pie for take out. I requested the brownie quartered and each piece was still a respectable size and absolutely the best brownie I have ever eaten. And while the brownie alone is reason enough to rate the bakery 5 stars, I'm writing to say the French Silk Pie is 5 stars and the MOON!! At $15.95 I was making a sizable purchase from our meager food budget, but the rich chocolate mousse with the most beautifully stacked and stable fresh whipped topping was an incredible value considering it served 10 very impressed guests throughout the weekend. I'm looking forward to returning to enjoy their savory offerings soon. Don't miss this gem...
