By far the best brunch place in Brick.
Turning Point has become overpriced bleh food and now charges $2 for real maple syrup. Seriously? Their tap water is also suspect. Smelled funky and had white floaties. Beware.
Taylor Sams can never seem to get an order right and their famous biscuits isn't all that, as claimed and the noise level is deafening.
The Lox Benedict blows Turning Point away by a mile for the quality and taste and portion. The Carnitas Egg Benedict is also amazing. The pulled pork was perfectly moist.
The best part is their burgers. A blend of ground chuck, short rib and brisket, cooked to order. Let me repeat that. Served any way you want it. Yes, you can have a medium rare burger because they grind their own beef just like Bobby's Burger before they left Monmouth Mall. And it's served on a real brioche bun. Not the fake stuff you see advertised at other bars or like at Shop Rite and it's a mound of dry bread. This is the real deal. Soft and buttery and holds up perfectly to not fall apart when you bite into it, to create the right bun to meat ratio. I had the Ultimate Brunch Burger and I was hooked. Five Guys or Smash Burger can't even compete with this delicacy of perfection.
They had a special of short ribs on a burger. OMGosh, by far the best burger I’ve had in awhile. This is the ultimate “man” burger. Not just a dollop of short ribs but a pile of it that was tender, juicy and yummy. This should be a staple.
Their sweet potato fries are also the best in town. Their truffle oil regular fries with short rib is amazing and enough for leftovers and microwave very well the next day since they are fatter than your typical fast food which wilts once you nuke it.
I don’t recommend the calamari. Typical gummy and over fried like any other place. If you want the best, go to La Mondina and you will discover what calamari should taste like.
If you hate the noise especially on their busy Sundays, I highly recommend going during the afternoon. The best seating is in the side parlor and behind the VW bus next to the bar to block out the noise.
Update. Decided to order online due to Mothers Day rush. Big mistake. Place was a mad house, not enough help at cashier to handle crowd. Ticket did not include side of fruit even though I paid for it on their website through Door Dash. Not employee fault, fault with bad communication between online ordering and print out at restaurant. Had to tell cashier to include it.
The worst part was some short order cook decided to burn an English muffin to a black crisp that was inedible and include it in my wife’s lox Benedict. Thanks for my wife’s Mother’s Day breakfast. FYI, the sweet potato fries are a smaller portion to go
Never again will I order online and pick up the food because you can’t inspect the food until you are home and I didn’t want to return to that disorganized restaurant.
Update:
The brioche bread is replaced with Kings Hawaiian sweet bread which still holds up and not fall apart. Not as buttery and great as a brioche but still acceptable. Bacon could be crispier on their Ultimate Breakfast Burger for texture. Bacon was a tad soggy and chewy. Perfectly cooked to order meat though, medium rare.
Sweet potato fries are now tri colored but still crispy and amazing. If you desire tater tot style, Brick House Tavern in Neptune offer scrumptious gems that are crispy and not soggy.
Lox with poached eggs breakfast now has crispy fried potato cakes which is an excellent replacement to the typical English muffin. A novel way to add texture to...
Read moreWe left 4pm Fri., Table 10. Window seat. Top left of my receipt says "Tina" as our waitress. We came from out of state and had a wonderful experience couple of years ago! I wanted my last stop today to be this pancake establishment because of our last experience. The food is really good! That's why I gave it a 4. Saying something positive, I can attest to this. But we were in disbelief this time around! The service I gave a 1.
There ended up being 6 of us. But anyway, my niece and her friend ordered the Strawberry Cheesecake Shake. The milkshakes comes with a strawberry on top. Dropping something, happens. But it's what you do afterwards, is what make or breaks an experience. My niece's strawberry fell onto floor, directly in front us. No big deal, an honest mistake. But Tina picked it up, as I'm watching her walk over to the counter that you can see from our table, rinsed the same strawberry off and brought it back over. It still the decorative drizzle on it. Of course, the drizzle was messy because it fell on the floor and from it being rinsed off. I can't remember if it was choc or caramel drizzle. The sink faucet is like a candy cane shape, if you will. Long, looked silver or platinum from where I was sitting, with that big hook.
Anyway, Tina handed me the strawberry, as if she was bringing us a new strawberry, and walked away. To help another customer, I assume. It was very empty at this time. Just a few people. They were working on something in the middle of the floor. Cute project or something, maybe. Anyway, I'm looking at the strawberry in my hand, in disbelief that she handed me back the same strawberry. Absolutely not! I put it on top of the napkin, open napkin, and handed it back to her, as soon she returned. Letting her know I saw exactly what you did. I said "This is the same strawberry!" She had the audacity to ask "Do I want a new strawberry?"
She comes back with a strawberry. That was dry and no drizzle on it. So I knew this was a "new strawberry." But my niece's friend decided not to eat the strawberry that she already had on her shake, understandably.
The 6th person came and ordered. I didn't hear her order. It came with strawberries, the (Nutella) because I would've stopped her. I wouldn't be surprised if the cut up strawberries that she received on her pancake, was mixed in with the one that I gave back to Tina. She stopped eating her pancakes and strawberries. Another family member on the phone wanted a take out, of strawberry pancakes. Of course, I wasn't bringing an order back of that, explaining what had just...
Read moreAs a consumer I always look for quality first price second after all I am eating it . The bacon was superb the pancakes as well fluffy and tasty not too sweet not too dry . The potatoes were cooked to correct consistency however the paprika was overwhelming it’s home fries not “potato’s paprika” . The jelly was Heinz the containers Heinz are in are difficult to open at best ! I strongly suggest they switch to Smuckers brand it’s better quality and the containers are easily opened . I asked for egg over light and stressed it however they were over medium and cooked on the hot side of the grill . My English muffin was forgotten and then delivered raw I sent it back for more toasting it was still under done and I don’t like it burnt to a crisp . The rye is seedless but it’s huge and more than sufficient if you order the three egg platter you won’t need a second bread order to Mop up the yolk . Now for the pancake syrup combo instead of maple syrup straight . I feel a pancake house should offer the option of real maple and charge the extra for it for a authentic taste experience and they do it’s a extra charge but it would’ve been nice to have offered that BEFORE hand during the preceding process . Over all I’d give it four stars I’d have given it five if my muffin was correct and not forgotten and eggs were cooked correctTo the actual order especially since it was not that busy the food came out fast they had plenty of time to do it right . Renee the server was good with the exception of the English muffin being forgotten and raw and that it had to be sent back she was attentive and friendly . Good server with the exception of the accuracy of the order that falls half on the grill cook . It was thirty three dollars for a big breakfast for one with a extra side of home fries and coffee for my friend who tagged along . I would return for sure and I will order accordingly to their strengths on the menu . I observed the other plated pancakes they were absolutely amazing combos and this is a pancake house !! I’ll bring my own strawberry jam next time I’m so not kidding I am a purist on my pancakes . And they do offer real maple Syrup for $3. Which is spot on for a pancake house . Definitely the best pancake house...
