An Episode of the Podcast Local Neighborhood Experts Sharon and Kyle was filmed here 1/8/25 at California Cold Co in Brick NJ. Upon first entering this chic coffee shop, you can’t help but noticing the stylish trendy muted palettes, industrial ceiling and altogether sophisticated atmosphere. The key elements are clean lines, uncluttered space, and focus on natural elements. The star of the show the Coffee. My co-host Kyle and I chose traditional hot coffee with a shot of espresso and cold brew, however, there are endless specialty coffee drinks to choose from as we were leaving, we were offered a complimentary avocado toast, which was delicious. Read moreI was so excited to try this coffee shop, but my excitement quickly died with the first sip. I ordered a chocolate chip scone and a large cold brew with the seasonal cold foam. The scone was inedible, it was beyond salty as if salt was substituted for the sugar. When I brought this to their attention, all I got was an “oh, I will tell the baker”. Then the barista just went on making coffee. There was maybe about 8 people in the shop, and the two orders that came out before mine had some detail wrong, whether wrong size or hot instead of cold, an issue with order entry. My order was no exception. I ordered a large and it was made as a regular, which turned out to be a blessing. I took a sip and the cold foam offered nothing to the coffee and the coffee itself was very bitter. I tried a few more sips, got about halfway through it and then gave up. The menu was promising but the delivery and goods were poor.
**Edited to note that the corporate customer service was exceptional. I received an email almost immediately wanting to rectify the issues. I promised I would be back, but I have not had a chance to get back to this location to retry. I recently received a follow-up email to check in to see if I went back. I appreciate the attentiveness to patrons and wanting to ensure a pleasurable experience. I changed my start review based on this. Hopefully soon I will be able to retry and boost the stars even...
Read more15 minutes and waiting for a drink. Just really sucks. It’s not the workers fault. It’s lunch time and busy. There are three total workers in the store. The store is packed. I guess the owners are happy to make money but don’t want to staff accordingly.
Seriously though, how long should I expect to wait before you discount my drink or give it to me for free.
So I tried to order ahead this time, so far the wait is even longer and you had the moxie to charge me $1 simply for ordering ahead and then even added a tip without telling me.
Either way I wait.
Congratulations on your success, please think about putting money back into the business by staffing accordingly and paying your team members enough so that you don’t automatically include a tip on my...
