We were greeted and sat quickly. But from there everything was slow. They had a good wine selection so I was originally excited but it took 20 minutes to get our first drink order (1 glass of wine and 1 mixed drink). It was not busy, a few tables sat when we sat down. From there everything got even slower.
Food: slow….. I would say the biggest problem is understanding salt. Everything was EXTREMELY salty. I thought it was just me but then my husband and daughter both made the same comments on their dishes as well. Mine was barely edible but we had waited so long we just did our best with what we had been given. It was to the point we thought maybe someone doubled the salt on accident. It was overwhelming.
Service: very slow. Food and drinks came out at a snails pace. In contrast, the section next to us with a different server was bringing out food and drinks at a record pace so we are assuming this was a server issue.
Drinks: wine was great but my husband’s drink was not great. He is an avid bourbon drinker and ordered an old fashioned. It was spicy like they had added a spiced rum. Very different than a traditional old fashioned. This would be fine had they had it on the menu as something different. But when you order a classic, you usually expect a classic.
Overall, if they were busy it would have been understandable that we were waiting but it was not busy and tables next to us were complaining as well about the wait on food and the check. There was also a 5% service fee added to our check with no explanation. We were a party of 3. I don’t mind at all tipping but adding a service fee to a small table that would have been willing to spend double in alcohol (but was left waiting for every ordered drink) is kind of insulting. My husband made the perfect reference and said it reminded him of an up north feel with the decor but gave zero consideration to the guests. Little things like the charcuterie board having 3 soft cheeses but only 3 crackers and 3 pieces of bread to eat it with? Maybe give a hard cheese as an option or up the things we can spread the cheese on? It was just overall not a...
Read moreWent with friends and we were very disappointed, we heard this place was good. All of our dishes weren’t what we exspected, wish I would of taken pictures. Three of us ordered Pepsi’s and we all agreed it tasted funny, they stepped up and didn’t charge us for them. For appetizers we ordered the Fried Calamari which was cooked perfectly, very tender. The Crab & Artichoke Dip was mostly cream cheese or filling and had very little crab and artichoke if any, tasted bland mostly cream cheese. Served with three small slices of bread and three crackers, not enough to go with the dip. Was good but they give you very little to share with friends. Ordered the Toasted Zucchini Cups which could of had more coat cheese, it was half of a dime size. Had to much pesto and Balsamic Vinegaret Glaze, scraped half of it off. Angry Chicken Sandwich was dry, the chicken was cheap processed frozen chicken that was thin, slice of tomato was thicker than the piece of chicken but unfortunately it was no where near ripe. Our friends ordered the Grilled Shrimp & Scallops and Spaghetti. There was only three tiny scallops and three tiny shrimp, was a bit over cooked and with a little bit of couscous, which was not worth the money. Spaghetti had three meatballs that were all burnt charcoal on one side and spicy pockets so you can tell it wasn’t mixed up well. The spaghetti was $26 which is ridiculous for a dish that’s so cheap to prepare and the flavor wasn’t that good. We tried to order the soup special and they said it wouldn’t be ready til about 6 PM. Also tried to order the Gumbo which was listed on line, also wasn’t available. Tried ordering the Chocolate Moose Dessert and was also told it wasn’t available. Went to pay the bill with cash, the server brought our change back and quickly said we don’t have coins then left the table quickly. The bills that we should of got were in there but not the coins favoring the restaurant. Not a lot of money but kinda think that’s stealing and if you think about how many times they do it per year it would add up very...
Read moreThe Canopy Lounge is absolutely top notch! I was in search of a venue to host my daughter’s First Holy Communion party for approx. 30 guests, without breaking the bank. Someone on the Brighton MI Happenings FB page suggested The Canopy so I checked it out. The minute I walked in was impressed by the modern rustic, yet vintage vibe this quaint restaurant has, and I was surprised by how big it actually is inside. Right away, I was greeted by co-owner, Bill Opre who gave me a tour, and showed me the new event space they added to the building a few months ago. It was perfect, so I booked it. Bill connected me with his GM, Charles Duty who took over from there. Charles was wonderful to work with. He went over all of the event package menu options, helped me with my selections, set up and all the final touches. Everything was first class! The food was amazing - we went buffet style with chicken lemon piccata, pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes, mostaccioli, steamed broccoli, garden salad and rolls - and all of our guests raved over the food. I love how the event space has a separate area for the buffet that has sliding barn doors that open when food is ready. Our servers - Holly and John were incredible - friendly and personable, attentive and very professional. Most importantly, everyone had a great time and it was a memorable event thank to The Canopy! They are a hidden gem, but not for long. I give them 5++++ stars, and...
