Cafe Central — Restaurant in Bristol

My husband and I ate at Cafe Central for the first time. However, it is not the first time that we have had the food from there. We occasionally order take out from DoorDash. The food is just like my moms homemade Portuguese food. So good!!!! Unfortunately, I have to be honest and it’s very unfortunate but eating at the restaurant for the first time really let me down! We walked in and we were not sure if we had to wait to be seated or sit anywhere. it was very uncomfortable. No one said hello and we were ignored. The waitress was at the bar and there were only 2 tables occupied. She ignored us! Looked up and didn’t say one word to us! I would have left but we knew the food was good so we decided to let it go. We finally decided to sit ourselves at a table and I have to say that the horrible service only became worse! I felt rushed and when she asked a question she would walk away making me obligated to feel as though I was bothering her if I needed a refill or ketchup! I was curious as to what Part of Azores or Portugal the owners are from due to the beautiful portraits On the walls. I couldn’t even get in the word dessert without her walking away from me never mind ask about the pictures!!!! Again, the food is AMAZING but get it through takeout. Not a good a good restaurant ...

Decided to give this place a second try. First time was ok, service wasn’t great. First visit was 2 weeks ago. This visit the salad was an extra dollar charge. Not sure if its because today was a Saturday or what. Did not have bread on table as they usually give, we had to ask for it. Service was poor, although the restaurant only had 3 tables of people. My girlfriends plate came out without the sides. We told the waitress about it, she said it was because her hands were full. But I heard her yell to the kitchen “I need some fries and rice quick”. The fries came out still uncooked and raw. We also ordered more drinks, did not receive them in 10 minutes, then the waitress came back and asked if we needed anything else. Which I reminded her the drinks. My girlfriends sister ordered well done steak plate. The steak was medium rare, also it did not have an egg on the plate, which it should have because her boyfriend ordered the same plate and he got an egg. Authentic Azorean cuisine! Must try the Chicharros (Stickleback Fish), packed with flavor! Raw Littlenecks on the Half Shell for a starter are a great price compared to other local restaurants. Free Papo Seco's (Portuguese Bread) and butter basket. Get a house bottle of wine to share, it is worth it. They offer a side salad or soup with most dishes. Their Bife à Casa (House Steak) is packed w/ flavor, heavy on the garlic and delicious. The Carne de porco à Alentejana (Pork & Clams w/ Potatoes) is good too, but the pork is usually a little dry.
