It’s my wife and I first year anniversary visiting from Washington DC we vacationed in Rhode Island and stayed over night in Boston for the Celtic vs Wizards game. Heading back to Rhode Island from Boston I convinced my wife we should support a black owned business being as though they are hard to find in the tourist area. Khalil’s kitchen had great reviews so Why not? The store opened at 11a we arrived about 10:50a saw the gate partially open so we waited. A young man with a ponytail and a gun on his hip opened the gate. There was a teen at the counter taking orders seem like he should have been in school. A lady and baby in the lobby assuming they are family because they were all inside before the gate opened. As we walked in we weren’t greeted by anyone. We approached the register and the first thing the teen says is cash only. As we proceed to decide what we want to order the guy with the ponytail repeatedly yells cash only. First the teen says I told them. Then the guy yells cash only a few more times to the point of me telling him its ok we have cash and understand. Then we proceed to order lobster tacos. There is no lobster. They weren’t friendly or welcoming on top of not having the food I came to try. Therefore we left. I know my patronage is not needed but I drove miles out of my way just to come here and the...
Read moreCall me the unluckiest person in the world or Khalil's Kitchen needs to do better and now. Ordered the same thing based off the menu, sweet teriyaki steak tip salad with added jerk shrimps 2 weeks ago (pick up). I called in, placed the order hours beforehand as I was heading to work. When I went to pick up only to know at the spot I couldn't pay with card but only cash which I didn't have. So could not get any food. Ordered the same thing yesterday. Mind you, when I call, the Girl taking the order had to go check if they make salad. It should have been my cue to cancel the order. This time, I could use my card without any issues. But God, for a 15 dollar salad, this was unacceptable and completely a safety issue. It seems like the meat was put in the plastic container being too hot and melted off it with the salad. Everything was soggy and I could not risk eating melted plastic. Whatever I had on top, I ate and it was really delicious. Unfortunately, the little or mostly nothing that was left on the container had to go to trash. I was overwhelmingly frustrated and disappointed. I have heard so much good thing about this place and was eagerly excited to try. This is not what I expected the...
Read moreThe food is garbage. I ordered mac and cheese with a side of sweet chili chicken wings. I only got the mac and cheese. I tried it and it’s terrible. I also got rice and beans with honey bbq wings. The wings were soggy despite having just ordered them and the rice and beans was something you get at someones Vovo’s house. In addition to an incomplete order they have the nerve to charge 18% gratuity for take out. First and last time ever. I don’t recommend at all. Response: the price was never the issue the incompetence of your employee was the issue the false advertising of soul food is the issue. You are serving Cape Verdean food saying it’s soul food. While we are on the subject of pricing for your mediocre food yes you are over priced. You served me Cape Verdean rice and beans and call it soul food. Some people will be better off continuing to serve out the back door of their house. It’s not restaurant worthy. Maybe Khalil should get in the kitchen. I’m all for supporting black business but this ain’t it. It’s food you buy off one of your Facebook friends at 3 am because everything else is closed and...
