If I could give it a negative 10, I would. We were regular customers because this restaurant is convenient, but not because it is particularly good. In fact, we have to wait for a hostess EVERY time we enter because she is always away from the station. It takes longer than it should to get an order of mediocre food, but it's close to our home and relatively easy with small kids, so we have continued to patronize this place. However, we will NEVER return.
My husband was served an entire raw egg (shell and all) in his breakfast order. He realized it after taking a large bite, so he ingested some of the shell and raw egg. Our sweet server (he really was great) took the order off the bill and apologized.
However, my husband thought it would be appropriate to comp the remainder of the breakfast since his experience made us all queasy. No one could continue eating after we saw that nasty raw egg. The manager (also very kind) explained that she "was not authorized" to comp the entire breakfast, despite the fact that she knows us as regulars, and she did believe we were correct in our request. We had two adults (my husband and me) and two little children with us, so our bill was only around $30.
The manager explained that policy dictated that she CALL the owner, and brought the portable phone to our TABLE. My husband explained the situation to the owner, Barry. My jaw nearly hit the table as Barry proceeded to ARGUE with my husband for nearly 10 minutes. When my husband stated that he would need to contact the Board of Health due to the possibility that he consumed something harmful, Barry insisted that "he felt threatened." I was appalled (I would use a stronger word if one existed) that this owner of a local business would argue with a customer, lose future business, and then feign fear when confronted with the consequence of us justifiably contacting the BoH. All of this time spent over a $30ish bill! Out of respect for the manager and server, I will not repeat what they think of this man, but suffice it to say that they agreed he was being ridiculous.
After doing some minimal research, my husband kindly decided against posting a negative review and, instead, contacted a mutual friend. This friend contacted Barry directly, and he evidently "doubled-down" on his position that raw egg and shell should not constitute a free breakfast. This mutual friend recommended that we take our business somewhere else, because Barry considers himself "an egg expert," and still felt he was correct in his handling of this situation.
Evidently, Barry has not heard the phrase, "The customer is always right," and he has lost our business forever. He has also lost the business of everyone we know and everyone that our friends know. Brookhaven is a small town, and word-of-mouth is powerful. This experience is the WORST I have ever had in a restaurant in my entire life. I truly hope others will stay away to avoid illness and, goodness forbid, having to speak to this owner on the phone while having Sunday brunch....
Read moreI met up with some friends at the Dresden Road location. My husband and brother also came along but sat on another table from my girlfriends and I. Unknown to my girlfriends and I, my husband and brother covered the bill and tip for both tables (ours and theirs). They explained this to the server who serviced both them, as well as us. This was supposed to be a surprise for me. My husband and brother left because my girlfriends and I kept chatting for a long time. The same server then brought us our check ( which was already paid in full by husband and brother). My girlfriends and I all placed our cards and paid the bill again plus tip again(as we were not aware it was already paid). We then left j Christopher’s, they went their way, and I met up with my husband and brother. Because this was supposed to be a surprise from my husband and brother, the first thing they asked me was “were you surprised? “. I said by what? We then discovered that the one server thought he got away with some extra money. Anyway, to keep this short, we went back to complain. The manager Angelica Hill, backed up the employee that tried to scam us. She said the owner was not there and we had to call another location if we wanted to speak with him. She provided us with a number, which we called. He was not there either. Lies upon lies. We were not able to talk to anyone above Ms Hill. I didn’t even mention that the credit card that my husband used to pay was declined. When we checked with the bank, it got declined due to fraud, as the check was a total of $94.00 and the server charged the card$132.00. The server came back to him and said the card declined. Cash was then given. So dishonest!!! The manager supported the server all the way through. We all felt McDonald’s gives more honest customer service. This was a terrible experience for my brother who was visiting from out of the US. Very bad!! The credit card my girlfriends and I used, are supposed to be refunded. We will await this credit. Lessons learnt! Never again. Server’s...
Read moreLack of basic training for staff I went there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM. I put may name on the wait list, provided the hostess with my cell phone number, and told her I would wait outside on the sidewalk along Dresden. There was wait despite more than half the tables being unoccupied, which I understand since food service establishments are short staffed. There were 3 tables with a total of 12 chairs on sidewalk along Dresden. There were 2 patrons on one and the rest were clean and empty. I pulled a chair from an empty table slightly to the side to sit while I wait. After about 5 minutes a server pokes her head out of the door and asks me (from about 25 feet) whether I had seen the hostess. I informed her that I had, and that I was waiting for a friend and for name to be called. She curtly informed me to stand up from the table while I wait. So, basically, I stood next to 12 empty chairs for the next 10 minutes wondering what kind of food establishment does not train/ educate their staff on the basics of hospitality- decency and courtesy. I do not blame the server nor the rest of the staff working that day. Every single one of them looked like they were in high school and were trying their best. It felt like they had no support, in terms of operations/ systems, supervision, and basic customer service training. When and establishment touts that it is “locally owned and operated” you come to expect warm customer service, and when it boasts of “24 locations” you expect a higher standard of quality in operations/ execution. My experience left me wanting on both. Unfortunately, no review of the actual food. It is hard to enjoy the food once you have been treated like an...
