GREAT FOOD, MEDIOCRE SERVICE:
The restaurant is small. It's the old Pegasus Lounge, in the shopping center with Josephine's Lounge. It's a nice restaurant and it has a bit of "hood" about it. They played soulful r&b music that was at restaurant volume, not club volume lol... The hostess and the gentleman, that I think might have been the cook or manager, were very nice and helpful. Our waitress was ok at best. You could tell that she didn't really care about our table vs her others. There were only 2 people in our party and her other tables had 4+. More people = more money.... and you could tell she was hustling to get more from the others. Once she took our appetizer and drink order, she didn't come back until just before the appetizers came out. Anywho... we ordered the Buffalo shrimp, lobster bites, fried catfish meal with Mac and cheese and yams, and the beef spare ribs with Mac and cheese and greens. The food was outstanding! The Buffalo shrimp... the sauce is spicy. Spicier than I expected it to be lol it wasn't insane, but it was "let me cool this off with ranch" spicy lol. Delicious with a perfectly fried texture. Would order again. The lobster bites... exquisite! I couldn't stop eating them lol. They pair it with a sweet and spicy sauce, which was a great compliment. It was the best thing we ordered tbh. I'd order them again for sure. The catfish was seasoned and fried nicely. It wasn't too crunchy or fried too hard. The yams were very sweet. If you don't like them sweet, don't order them. They were delicious though! Lol the Mac and cheese....I absolutely loved that it was cheesy and creamy, but still had the top layer of baked cheese. 4/5 stars. Would order again.. no question. The greens were seasoned nicely. They were thick cut. If you need thinly sliced greens, don't order these. They were good. The spare ribs were also good. They were tender and sauced enough for me to not need a side of sauce to cover up the bad taste. I would probably not order the spare ribs again though. Overall.... the food was great, but I didn't love the service. I really hate that servers make it their business to tell you that the 18% tip that's automatically applied to your check, regardless of the size of your party, is split between everyone and anything extra that you'd like to give is for your waitress. I hate this new system. Nonetheless, I'd come back, but I'd either opt to get it to go or sit at the bar. If you want a more classy experience, go 2 minutes up the street to hit Roc South. If you don't want to dress up and just want to enjoy a dope meal with no pressure, this is your spot. You can also dress up, but you might feel...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to go to Atlanta for a weekend getaway. And when I say getaway, I mean a food vacation! On the entire trip there we were online trying to figure out where we were going to eat once we got there, being that we got ready late, we decided to go to Southern fire kitchen (they stayed open late and their kitchen stayed open until 11. We called a little earlier just to make sure we didn’t need reservations and this place is pretty much walk-in first come first served which is something that I liked about it… We got there around 10pm, it’s located in a shopping center on Buford Highway, with lots of parking. I could tell there were people sitting outside and waiting to go inside (which is most times a good sign). We put our name on the list and were seated in about 45 minutes. While waiting, we chatted with the staff and the owner, who were all extremely friendly and made the wait just feel like we were at a family gathering!
When we went inside to be seated, there was 90s music playing which created the perfect vibe on a Saturday night! Our waiter came over and let us know he’d be over shortly to take care of us. The place was packed but it wasn’t to the point where it felt like the people were elbow to elbow with us. When he came back, we already knew what we wanted from looking at their page all day!
I ordered the Georgia on My Mind cocktail, Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops, Mac and Cheese and mashed potatoes, with a side of gravy. My husband had the Thug Passion cocktail, BBQ Beef Short Ribs, collard greens, Mac and cheese, with a side of honey butter corn bread.
The drinks came out pretty quickly and were delicious, the food also came out fast, but was definitively hot and fresh. I am going to put it out there that my husband and I both cook and are extremely picky but this place is top 2 of best places I’ve been and the only one better is my own!!!! Everything from the presentation, the taste, the service and the quality was outstanding! The ONLY complaint I had was that the Mac and cheese was a bit too salty for my liking, but it was still top notch from a restaurant stand point!
We enjoyed every minute of the vibe this place offers, the staff who all feel like family, and the food that just makes you smile and do the happy dance! The owner definitely is doing an amazing job because consistency and customer service/satisfaction is key in the food business and many of the restaurants now days do not honor those principles. I will definitely be back because we woke up the next morning thinking about how good...
