On the three points that all restaurants should be judged I would rate this at a negative Stars
To the first point atmosphere and ambience it was just okay.
Second point being service negative Stars. The waitress seemed more interested in my order for me than she was in the complete order for me and my girlfriend. We ordered two seafood raviolis one with an addition of grilled chicken I also ordered a steak salad.
When the food was brought out she only brought out my meal and salad and completely forgot my girlfriends as I was raised a gentleman I put my food off to the side and waited for my girlfriends to arrive it took 10 minutes.
The third point the food itself it was underwhelming uninspired and severely lacking. We compared it to some cheap off the shelf grocery store pasta the seafood flavor was muddled under the overuse of sauce the ravioli you could not taste the seafood within the ricotta was overly used and left one feeling as though they've been cheated I didn't even bother to finish my meal.
As to the drinks that we ordered when we first got there with our mail they were poorly prepared and the presentation was non-existent. My girlfriend never had before tasted a cosmo I suggested she give it a try it was so sour so infused with lemon that it was tart bitter and she did not wish to drink it. Me only to the fact that I had to drive that evening opted for one glass of wine I asked if they had a house wine in which I was informed they used some off the shelf of $8.50 per glass stuff this is the first high end restaurant that I have ever been to in my life that did not keep a respectable house wine in stock the wine they presented to me was bitter and tart it had a offensive bouquet no legs at all and the fill of it on your tongue would be the equivalent of drinking turpentine overall this restaurant failed and not only expectations but it's entire menu and staff it is an offensive front and insult to...
Read moreMy wife and I were here a few weeks ago as guests of my mother. My mother ordered a pasta dish, I had a Philly steak sandwich, and my wife had the deconstructed California roll salad.
We were left disappointed.
Firstly, the dining room décor was dull. Everything in there is brown. Secondly, the food took entirely too long to arrive. When we asked our what the hold-up was, he explained that they were training some new cooks and that they weren't up to speed yet. Which would have made sense had the dining room not been roughly three quarters empty. Thirdly, and most disappointingly, my wife ordered her salad without the bell peppers. She simply doesn't like them. The salad had the peppers. Fortunately she doesn't have a food allergy, so she decided to eat around them. Then she saw the fly. A dead fly under the avocados. She sent it back immediately, and, stomach sufficiently turned, decided not to eat anything else that evening. Here's the punchline. Our server attempted to upsell us some desserts after he took the offending salad away. Craft, you failed. I don't care how green your cooks are, allowing flies on your food is unacceptable. You're supposed to have a pest control plan in place, are you following it? Because flies in the kitchen would suggest otherwise. Brookings lost a perfectly good Godfather's Pizza so you could be in that location. Do better. Or don't, we won't be...
Read moreAll-you-can-eat brunch buffet - $15, pretty decent price, but a bit limited for a vegetarian. I'd say if you are passing through Brookings and need a nice sit-down Sunday brunch with options (say, for instance, parents coming to town for a visit), this is a good bet that there's something for most people at your table. I'm not sure if this selection is a regular thing, but today's pans had scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, eggs benedict, potato cubes (country potatoes?), bacon, ham, buttered corn, green beans, cinnamon bread pudding, pesto penne w/ roast veggies, grilled chicken strips, mixed fruit/melon, yogurt, and scones. Bottomless mimosas for an extra $10, but I didn't spring for that (wasn't planning on drinking). Overall seemed like basic food classed up a bit, but like I said, not much breakfast foods for a vegetarian. Eggs were a bit over-cooked, potatoes under-seasoned, strange bowls for yogurt (and no spoons unless requested); on the other hand, bread pudding was quite yummy (almost like raw cinnamon bun dough), as was the corn (a rather surprising addition to breakfast), and I was told that the benedict was decent too. I think it was a good deal after the inclusion of a coupon (half off the second person's brunch price). I think their normal menu has better...
