Fat Irish Kitchen & Pub — Restaurant in Brookings

I've written a lot of reviews but I've never been as excited as I am to write this one. Fat Irish is hands down the best restaurant/pub I have ever been to and I will fight anyone that thinks otherwise.

The atmosphere: when you walk in you can hear everyone laughing and having a good time, good music, and you're always met with smiling faces to greet you and ask you how you're doing. The ambiance couldn't be more suiting for the whole set up, and the fire pit out front is a nice touch.

The staff: between our three visits we interacted with about 7 different staff members and all of them were beyond amazing at their jobs. From suggestions to their general ability to know just what you need/want, you really can't find better staff anywhere else and you can absolutely tell that they love their job and are treated well which is so damn rare to find these days.

The food: oh dear god the food. Words cannot express just how good the food is here. Never before have we ate at the same place twice while on vacation and we stopped here three times before going home. Altogether we had their Ruban sandwich, the clam chowder, corned beef tacos, the beer battered cheese curds (these stole the show), the turkey club sandwich, their carrot cake, and chocolate gnache cheesecake. The chowder was like velvet. The clam seemed almost slow cooked and the baccon addition was so unrealistically good. The corned beef was the best we ever had and it just fell apart in your mouth. But the cheese curds. The beer battered, served with ranch and a sweet chili sauce cheese curds. These were heaven. Perfectly fried and they straight melt in your mouth, I would travel the 5 hours just to have those again and plan on it.

My wife and I have ate at a lot of places on vacations, and just in general, but this is the blueprint for what every restaurant in the world should aim for. I really cannot describe our visits here as anything short of Perfect. The staff was super friendly and attentive. The food was better than expected. The ambiance was warm, welcoming, and inviting. We seriously cannot wait...

DO NOT EAT HERE... scammers and will charge you for items you didn't order. Customers were extremely friendly as well as most of the staff but the "manager"/ bar tender was an extremely rude individual. He needs to learn how to make a proper drink. Other customers complained about his drinks to us when we said that they were not good. The lady that was taking our order said he kept yelling at her and she was super scared of him and didn't want to upset him anymore when we asked for them to be made properly. He then came out and and started yelling at us and wouldn't let us talk. We wanted to cancel our order as we still hadn't received our food and he said "No! you will be paying for everything would you like it to go!?" We were charged for four margaritas as two were already paid for that were returned and were also charged for a shot that wasn't even given to us. Horrible service and food was not great and drinks were nasty. They overcharged us for items not received and were so rude. We are a friendly bunch and usually don't complain but all the other customers said, "ya you should sent them back". I came here to brookings to get away from being grabbed by a random man the day prior and just clear my mind and have a good weekend but it was completely ruined by Brian's ego. Gone here before when we visit Brookings. But after yesterday we will never go back.Lets start with the beginning. My 2 daughters one which came from AZ, a granddaughter and grandson came to walk on the beach and decided to go the the Pub for a late lunch. We walk in and was greeted my a loud person, never thought about finding out his name. So we sat down and got the menu. I had brought my bottle water in,and didn't think about the restaurant code, I also had my Boost for weight gain and protein drink. So this loud server comes over with water and I told him no water for me well that really set him off. He jumped all over me for bringing in my water and he wasn't quite about it, it was like he wanted to impress the rest of the consumers. He asked us if we wanted a alcohol drink and my kids said no thank you, then he blurted out, YOU COME INTO A IRISH PUB AND YOUR NOT GOING TO HAVE A DRINK! Again very loud. This really upset my kids and so we decided just to walk out. When leaving he was still blabbing on and I walked up to him and said quietly that I had tongue cancer and I couldn't eat . That didn't phase him at all, then he said something like Oh this lady has cancer bla bla bla, very loud. I sure wish I could have found out his name, it was like he was trying to impress my girls.
