I am a wedding Planner in Indianapolis and recently worked with SO Italian for catering. I have never worked with them before but it was the couple's choice to use them.
First off, I went through multiple people with communication because people quit. The day of the wedding I received a phone call saying they would be there at 5:45 PM, (the wedding started at 5:30 PM). The wedding started, took place, was over and NO SO ITALIAN.
They didn't know where to go they claimed ( It is a VERY Popular Venue downtown and they had the address) . They were 25 Minutes late and dinner was slated to start at 7 pm. They arrived at 6:10. I had to call and ask where they were and I was told they left 25 minutes ago. The location they came from takes at LEAST 45-55 minutes to get to. She said she wasn't with them but she would call the team on the way and find out where they were and have them text me.
It was a plated dinner and they started with salads (pretty sure it was bagged, lettuce, one tiny slice of onion and maybe 2 cucumber slices). BUT, we were told there would be 4 servers bringing food out. They had 2 people serving and one of them was a woman who was probably 75-80 yrs old. They had ONE Person plating food for almost 100 people.
The woman had 2 squeeze bottles of salad dressing. She followed the guy around asking what dressing they wanted and squeezed it on.
From the time the salads were served to the Main course was over 30 Minutes.
They had Lasagna and some sort of alfredo meal. It was OK. But honestly, it was no better than Fazoli's. The breadsticks are the worst tasting breadsticks I have ever had. Mine was undercooked and soggy inside. They charged this couple $18 a Person.
The Grooms family was never served (there were 8 people sitting at a reserved table), they served other guests before the Bride/Groom's family. We had to tell them to serve them meals as they simply just bypassed them. Had we not said something, they wouldn't have been served meals.
I have been in this industry for over 10 years and worked over 1000 events. Catering should arrive no less than 2 hours BEFORE THE START of the wedding. Not 25 minutes LATE and after the wedding. You need more than 2 servers for almost 100 people. They didn't buss tables well at all. No trash was taken out. The Salad was plated and sat for 30 Minutes so it was warm salad.
I do not and will not recommend them for Catering. I spoke with them months in advance to confirm their arrival time and they said they never show up until 1 hr prior to dinner. I tried to get them to arrive earlier and they were LATE which is ABSURD and unheard of for a...
Read moreI work local and we use them fairly frequently but as of late, we have been noticing a fairly sharp decline in the business. Mainly the customer service side is what has been affected the most but we are also starting to notice some quality issues. Yesterday, I was ordering a large stuffed pizza (18") for a training class that I had scheduled for 4pm. I called at around noon and was told that they would not be able to deliver due to lack of staffing. I then agreed to pick the pizza up at 3:45pm. When I arrived, I was rung up using my corporate card and I sat and waited for the pizza to be done (I arrived about 10 minutes early). When the time came, the guy who rang me up said that the girl in the kitchen (who could not speak, nor apparently read English) mis-read the order and made a 16" instead. He offered to re-make the pizza for me "really quickly" but I told him that I could not wait. He then proceeded to get cash out the register to refund me the difference. I told him that I could not do this as it was a company card. I then had to instruct him to refund and re-ring me for the correct pizza size. He took my card and receipt and disappeared around the corner for a few minutes only to come back and tell me that he accidentally rang me up a 2nd time for the larger pizza. He then voided the entire transaction and just gave me the 16" for free. Again, I commend them for the customer service in the pinch but the experience was not the best. Also, the pizza was much more thin and not nearly as good as what we normally get there. I also noticed when I went in that the building and its contents are not really being kept up. There was a generic sign taped to a statue saying it was broken and small things like this. I think the owner may have been focusing a bit too much on the Plainfield location but better start coming back home a bit more often because Sal's pizza across the street is pretty...
Read moreLet me start by saying we love their food! That hasn’t changed, but they do not do catering well. I had them cater my daughter’s wedding this past weekend for 150 people. We served two different kinds of pasta, salad, and breadsticks. I had them do buffet service (for an extra $4.75 per person) and was told they would set up their own table with linens upon arrival. First, they did not bring their own linens and second, they served everything out of aluminum foil trays sitting flat on the table (no warmers) and the salad dressing was served out of plastic to-go containers.. When I walked up to the buffet table I was quite appalled at how dreadful it looked. There was no elegance to it at all. It looked like a very cheap meal sitting on the table. However, at that point there was nothing I could do about it so dinner was served and the food was good. At the end of dinner I asked the staff if they brought lids or covers for the containers or if I needed to take care of that myself. I was informed that they take all the extra food with them. I then informed them that I paid for the food and we would be keeping what was left and that they could leave it in the catering room. I came back to start cleaning up after the reception and the food was left on the buffet tables with no covers, just sitting there. They couldn’t even bother to take them in the catering room or to let me know where they were. I do not recommend them for a wedding or anything classy. They did not measure up, not even close for...
