I do not recommend this place at all. I had visited this place in three occasions and I was very disappointed with the food, drinks and desserts in all three. I am sad to be writing this review but I hope it can help the owner to make the necessary changes for people not to get disappointed in the future. The first time I visited this place was during the opening, the service was great, however the latte and chicken salad crossing had very bad taste. My mom and I ordered a regular latte as we typically do anywhere, but the flavor was just off and ugly. The croissant was hard and difficult to eat and the chicken salad did not even had chicken, it was literally big pieces of apple. Since it was the opening, and I believe in second chances. I decided to give it a second try and I went to celebrate my sister’s birthday. This time the service was horrible, they kept on bringing the wrong order and servers seemed lost and disorganized. The food again disappointed me. My sister ordered a fruit tray and the fruit was horrible, you could not even eat it. My eggs Benedict were okay, but the bread was very hard again and it was very challenging to cut it with the knife and even more to eat it. Everyone in my table was having the same issues. And the coffee,, horrible again. Also, a server started cleaning a table behind ours and the smell of the towel she was using to clean was so horrible that I even got nauseous and lost my appetite. After this time I decided I wasn’t going to eat again there. However, I thought I would give the place a last chance since I had heard that desserts were good and the first to time I was there they did not have any since they had ran out. So I went one third time with the hope that they were going to be amazing. To my surprise,, the were worst :( this really broke my heart. My friend and I ordered 3 pastries, one tea and one cappuccino. The drinks were horrible and we could not even drink them. Im not sure if the server noticed it since she came and offered us water. The pastries were sooo bad, and so hard. The bread was extremely hard that we could not cut it with the knife and not even with our hands. The flavor was horrible too,, the pistachio croissant tasted like bacon and was the hardest one, the cookie croissant was extremely sweet and the hazelnut pastry had a very disgusting flavor and texture. We ended up paying $47 for 3 pastries and 2 drinks that we did not even drink nor eat. We literally just tasted it and could not continue eating it. At this point I will never go back, and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I wish the place success and I hope my honest review can help to make the necessary changes to add value and quality to the food, drinks and pastries. People deserve good quality food for the price they pay. Your prices are seriously ridiculous for the...
Read moreMade reservations for a Saturday morning! My sister and I love breakfast and brunch and could not wait! The restored building in downtown Brownsville has been absolutely renovated! The interior is so very beautiful and unlike any other restaurant in the Valley! The hosts and servers are welcoming and friendly-super sweet! We sat by one of the large windows that let's just the right amount of natural sunlight in-perfection! So because this is a bistro-like restaurant, the menu is not extensive but they have typical French entrees: crab eggs benedict, omelettes, biscuits and ham, croquet monsieur and madame. I wanted something high in protein to break my fast and went with the omelette; my sis for the French toast because she has a massive sweet tooth. I'm being totally honest when I say the food and presentation looked beautiful 😍 but the flavors, I'm unsure about. Food review: the petite biscuits were rock hard, I literally knocked one on the table-top. The butter in the butter dish was super cold and unspreadable, the omelette was so bland I was thinking of asking for salt gasp and the french toast was a soppy mess of bread and cream. That said, my only experience at a French bistro is Laurel Park Bistro in Harlingen. And their brunch is EXCEPTIONAL!!! I had hoped Jolie Petit would either be at the exact same standard because chef Diego Benitez does an incredible job of dishing out incredibly beautiful and delicious food at Laurel Park, or even out-do my experience. Sadly, I was very disappointed that the food was so very lackluster for the price. $63 not including tip for 2 brewed coffees, 1 French toast, 1 omelette with a side of potatoes, biscuits and jam. I never mind paying good money for great food, I just didn't feel the food was all that great. The atmosphere, however, was worth every penny! Again, incredible decor, gorgeous patio, friendly servers- James rocks 👊! I want to LOVE Jolie Petite, so I will return in another month or so. I want to have a solid experience before I recommend then to my friends and family like I do Laurel Park! I'll see you soon,...
Read moreWe heard about this new place offering French cuisine and some other options so we thought we'd try something new. We are not from the Brownsville area, but knew we were going to be there yesterday so we made a reservation. Parking was challenging but I imagine anything located downtown has that same challenge. When we entered the building, though, it was quickly forgotten as we were immediately taken in by the look and feel of the restaurant. Charming is best word we could use to describe it. The brick columns with the hardwood ceiling and the unique chairs and colors gave the look of what we imagine a charming little restaurant in Paris might look like. As it turns out, the building is a historic building which made it all the more interesting. We were a large group, but we were tended to and served quickly. Our dishes ranged from the Salade De Campagne Francaise to the Poulet Croustillant. My husband loved the Quiche Lorraine and my parents and in-laws loved the Poulet Croustillant. The rest of us all had different plates and each of us loved what we ordered. The desserts were delicious and just the right size! The hardest part was choosing which ones to try! One of the other positives was that the pricing was fair. We did not feel any of the meals were overpriced. If I'm not mistaken, the most expensive item on the menu was the steak.
We had a chance to meet the owners/Chef as they chatted with the tables. Very nice couple and it was heart warming to hear how their passion for food and love of Paris connected to making this dream come true for them. This was their soft opening and had yet to hold the grand opening. Based on how busy it was while we were there, we think they are going to have tremendous success.
We will definitely be back as Jolie Petite has given us a new reason to plan a trip to...
