Party of two, 1st time visitors We went for the drinks as they claimed to be some of the best in town. Presentation was 5/5 but drink itself was a 3,could be a bit more generous for $10+ drinks, we had 3 "signature" drinks each an didn't really "notice" them.
Both food an drink presentation (alone) is unique to this establishment, but most of these items can be found at other establishments much more enjoyably, an I didn't go to look at my food/drink, I went to enjoy it. Brownsville has a ton of great places that offer this kind of food but you can taste the heart an soul put into the "tinier" establishments food.
Services were ok, a bit passive aggressive, probably since we "didn't fit in", but you should never judge a book by it's cover. Our waitress was nice,at least to our face, but some of the wait staff/greeters should learn that private conversation should probably be held in the back kitchen, not in front with the customers. Their personal opinions about the locals here in town should probably be kept to themselves. I wanted to leave before we even sat down due to this behavior, but my partner wanted to stay an try it.
There was an issue with our bill,we don't need to be spoken to like we didnt understand the bill, we can read the menu an understand that there was items missing we did not receive, but were charged for.
1st time, but got the feel of typical High price, Low quality food(for the cost).
We were told we needed reservations but the place was empty most of the time we were present, only starting to fill as we were leaving,1.5hours after arriving.
Read moreFoodies galore...rejoice in this fantastic and rustic environment and amazing dining experience. Nestled in downtown Brownsville, Texas where you can see, feel and experience the resurgence of this area, Terras Urban Mexican Kitchen delivered on all points food, service and atmosphere. From the eclectic bar setting to the down home rustic seating, I came across Terras Urban Mexican Kitchen while in town on business. From my bartender Alexa serving me up an awesome Johnny Walker Black-rocks as my pre dinner drink to Aylin delivering dining heavy hitters such as the curry potatoes and costillas de elote(yep, as described, corn ribs)----basically a delicious corn on the cob sliced up to literally look like ribs flavored with amazing Chipotle aolie and lime, and for the main event... the amazing 12oz Prime Ribeye( I had mine cooked medium rare) accompanied by an amazingly roasted beef bone marrow all sitting on a sweet mole sauce...simply devine and decadent. Additionally, I sampled the ribeye chacharrones and this dish hit on all points! Despite this meal...I had room for dessert and my choice was the pan de elote. Yes, corn bread with a wonderful cinnamon touch and wonderfully smooth vanilla ice cream. This place gave me a warm, cozy family atmosphere(I hear their brunch is one of their specialties on Sundays) vibe with incredible attentive servers, bar staff and front of house crew. They do have seating for parties and such(give them a call to reserve a bigger table), and there is plenty of room not just in the dining rooms but also at the bar. Come down to Brownsville and give Terras Urban Mexican Kitchen a nod. Check out their...
Read moreWe came here to try the Mexican Inspired Ramen that was being sold for a limited time. When we got there they had run out so we had to wait around 20 minutes. We ordered some chips and salsa while we waited. The chips were hot and crispy which is great because you can tell they made them in house. The salsa could have really benefited from some spice but it was good either way. When we finally got the ramen it looked nothing like it did in the advertisement, but it smelled delicious. The ramen had corn, green onions, mushrooms, and brisket. The broth was full of flavor and it was delicious. The brisket was perfectly cooked and had a very good barbecue flavor. The mushrooms were unlike anything I've seen before, you'll see what I mean in the picture, but they added texture to the dish. Overall, the ramen was delicious and I wish they didn't take it off the menu.
Now let's talk a little about the atmosphere and service. I'm very happy that places like this are starting to open up in Brownsville. The atmosphere is like something you'd find in Austin. The restaurant has a really nice flow to it. The staff seems very nice as well and they made us feel welcomed. Unfortunately we didn't pay much attention to the menu since we knew we were there for the ramen but most of the dishes were in the double digits.
If they stuck to the ramen and left it on the menu this place would benefit. They'd be the only place in Brownsville that sold ramen. The fact that they sold out 40 minutes after they announced should be a...
