Originally gave it 5/5 stars. I went in today, the pan dulce seemed old so I started grabbing from the cart, there was only conchas that were not new and empanadas that were still hot. I love new pan!! Walked around and got a few more pieces then headed to the cash wrap and asked the lady if there was more new pan and she said “um no”. LITERALLY as I was there the panadero came out with a new cart plus the one where the empanadas where - which she moved away. So rude!!! Never going back because of this lady!! Super Cream is gonna be my go to for the conchas rellenas and regular pan dulce will be from Lara’s in Harlingen. Sad this business doesn’t have a fb account where we can reach someone to share our experiences. They used to bring me charolas from inside just for me and I’d buy them all. I may have diabetes but also got a sweet tooth 🤭 ———— Previous review from years ago: This is one of my favorite bakeries in the Valley. No one, literally no one makes better conchas. The only pan dulce that I totally can’t eat from here are the chocolate donuts. They’re disgusting. Everything else is good! Great pan dulce, prices and great service. It is a little old but hey it’s a bakery! Been a customer here for years already. There was a time when they would pull out a tray of conchas just for me! They’re a must try!!

If you want to walk into a dying establishment, whose spirit has been long gone, then walk into this place. The bread quality is in the dump. Meanwhile, the prices DO NOT reflect what you're actually buying. I wish I was playing, too. When I buy a pumpkin filled empanada, I expect more than a quarter sized serving of that filling. The "marranos" seem to be on the trendy Ozempic diet as well, and I wish I was kidding. The bread looks to be at least a day old. The soft donuts have been replaced by round scones. The building itself looks dark and damp. The lady at the counter has been stricken out forbade from speaking or smiling, I guess, as she shows zero emotion. The parking is dangerous, and the entire place is unwelcoming and uninviting. I'm sure this place once had love, pride, and quality at their forefront. But all of that has been packed away and shipped off to Lord knows where. You've been warned.

Now you got to understand, this place looks a bit "iffy" to some people inside. But there is a reason why this place has been opened for many years. The oh so sweet aromatic wind that passes through this place will make you hungry even after having a big breakfast! It is incomparable to any other bake shop in Brownsville. Ofcourse there are others with good stuff. But La Familia Bakery takes their sweet bread game to a whole 'nother level. You HAVE to stop here to find out what they're up to.

No flavor pan dulce 😞 I got a variety of pan dulce and all was super dry, had no flavor or butter and no sugar.Every single piece tasted the same which was astonishing. Happens every time we go LOL but it is super cheap. People are nice but hard to believe it is a bakery. It has been like this since I was young till now as a adult.

I have no idea how they have such high rating. I am not a picky eater either. It can't be every time I go (since I live close) the pan dulce has no flavor, right?

I support local businesses but seriously it's like they forget to put sugar and...
