On Wednesday my family and I decided to visit the the beautiful town of Romeo, Michigan. We volunteered a local farm and helped out feeding the animals. We had our trip planned, and one stop was to eat at the rustic blue bird, and browse around town for the day. As we entered the restaurant we noticed it was carry out only, no masks on any employee. I asked a few questions about the menu, while I was reviewing the menu. We asked if we could use the restroom, and we where refused use of the restroom? I tried to explain that we where from out of town, and we just needed to wash our hands before we ate, and was told due to Covid 19 we could not use the bathroom and it was for employees only! I was directed to use hand sanitizer. It's funny that they were so concerned about Covid yet NOT one worker had a mask on, and everyone was making food, serving carryouts..etc...No masks, food serving gloves, plastic aprons??? Anything to prevent the spread of Covid? As I tried very pleasantly to maybe make an exception for just my 9 year old son who is type one diabetic and was having a low blood sugar and needed to eat sooner rather than later...a very rude lady came out from the kitchen and started to very abruptly ask what my problem is? I tried to re explain myself, and she rudely told me NO!!!! DUE TO COVID she too was not wear a mask? We decided to go to the coffee shop next door and delightful was welcomed and was not denied use of the bathroom or anything else for that manor. It's sad that during these hard times for all small businesses, we truly just wanted to eat and go in with our lives... we pray that maybe next time the lady in the kitchen will soften her heart considering you don't know someone's situation, and we truly talked about your menu and what food we wanted to order food the night before...it all sounded so delish and fresh. We all wanted one oof everything on the menu... And liked all your reviews on Google... But no pun intended...but one bad apple, spoiled ...
Read moreNOT WORTH IT!!!! DO NOT GO!!!! SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!! Stopped in for one of their supposed famous salads. Definitely NOT what I received for a whopping $14.97 (with an ice tea). When I opened the container I found literally 3 plus pounds of bacon, pork and little to no actual lettuce to be able to call it a salad. It lacked anything other than pork and some bagged spring mix. No blue cheese, no crunchy onion things as the menu described and was handed out in a styrofoam clamshell carryout container. And now here's the kicker. There was a mystery item/fluid in with the little bit of lettuce and literally smeared on the bottom of the carryout container. The thought of what it was literally made me nauseous. It had zero odor and I sure as heck did not even attempt to taste it. I contacted the restaurant, sent pictures as I didn't want to drive 20 minutes back to the location after returning back to work. I received a phone call from the owner.... her literal response was, "that is pork juice, I assure you of it." mind you it was completely odorless, and had the consistency of a substance I'd rather not say... in her voicemail left to me she continued with.... And I quote. "we are all humans, but we do not lie" Not sure what that means... but right after that nonsensical statement she asked that I never walk back into her place of business ever again... Now, I was not rude. I did not even talk to her. I did not call screaming and ranting... I simply called, asked for a phone number to send a picture to and to let them know of the situation. So.. I suggest that anyone reading this, never walks into her location. Not ever! I personally feel the condition of the food was something below the level of carnival food and her response as a business owner within a small community was unbecoming and had zero professionalism. Hard Pass in my view! We are all humans but we don't lie... What in the heck is that even suppose to...
Read moreThis place has great salads and sandwiches.
We used to really enjoy dining at the old location near the intersection of Van Dyke and 32 Mile, which had a great atmosphere and indoor seating. We would dine there once or twice a week and loved it.
Then in 2020 they shut down for a long time. When they finally opened back up, it was take out only, which was very disappointing because we do not live in Romeo. We used to drive half an hour to dine there, but did not want to drive that far just to pick up a sandwich and drive back home to eat it.
There are two locations now, but it's not the same. It's still mostly take out, with just a handful of tables outside where you have to put up with the flies at the Almont location, or a little cubby hole at that great big house in Romeo or outside by a food truck.
If you'll notice, all the great pictures of the dining experience in the reviews were posted at least 4 years ago. Outside of their catering business there is really no comfortable or enjoyable dining like they used to have. The girl in Romeo said my favorite, the French dip, isn't even available at the Romeo location.
The food is probably still great, but we wouldn't know because we haven't eaten there since they closed to indoor dining.
Please bring back a nice indoor dining experience. Your food is too good to just relegate it to an inferior and uncomfortable...
