Sunday our first time visiting Hootenanny's for lunch plans to skip diner. There were only a few other customers this Sunday, the front dinning aera was empty. We were greeted and asked to order down a few steps, there is a counter chalk board and menus. When trying someplace new we always order what we like and something different. "The Sunday Special Hot Plate"$ 23.00 times two. Okay the brisket was great done just right the ribs were over done & crispy the tri tip steak was over done and not tender at all - sorry that's how it was. The tri tip normally is a very tender juicy cut of beef and we were happy to see it on the menu. After 39 years in the meat business if you are serving this cut it had better be graded top choice or prime and cooked to perfection. The two sides were served in foam cups both a good size serving in fact the overall serving of beef & ribs were generous. We each had two meats two sides and a drink which totaled up to $55.10. Taco shells ,pickles two cups of dipping sauce the plastic forks and knifes really need to be upgraded after all the knife should be able to cut what you ordered when eating and the fork should not bend. The place was very clean the staff very friendly as this is a one of a kind in downtown Brunswick .A old house turned into a place to come and eat inside or out. There is a small bar inside tables out back and out front. Maybe we will try this again during the week ordering something smaller a hand held or a tacos. Brunswick needs more places like this today rising costs on all beef items can be hard to overcome. The teres major or the fat on culotte or the chuck short rib might be something worth trying. Hootenanny’s a nice change and a great addition...
Read moreThe best barbecue in Brunswick and maybe on the entire Georgia coast. Hootenanny’s has perfected the art of smoking meat. The brisket is amazing, as are the chicken, ribs, turkey and sausage. The Brunswick stew and mac-and-cheese are the best I’ve had and the other sides are equally delicious. If you want something on the lighter side they can add smoked meat to a bed of greens. If they have smoked fruit cobbler for dessert, grab it before it’s gone. The restaurant and dining areas are inside a renovated old house right next door to the historic Glynn County Courthouse and adjacent to Brunswick’s vibrant downtown district. The screened-in backyard dining area provides a relaxed place to eat and there’s plenty of inside seating, too. This is artisanal barbecue at its finest in a welcoming family friendly atmosphere. And they’re open on Saturday and Sunday as well. You can’t ask for...
Read moreI wish I could find the words to describe this place. We arrived today- on a Friday at lunch at it was empty. We were a little concerned but decided to try it out. The menu online was very different from the menu that we saw when we arrived. We ordered 4 different entrees- the entrees themselves were all delicious. The meat was yummy & tender. Besides the cheap tasting chips on the nachos (not what you expect from a place proclaiming to be “craft”). Our biggest complaint all around was the sides. Nearly EVERY side we had was loaded with curry- the ham and potato soup, the mac and cheese even tasted like curry, and the beans. It was quite literally a shock to all of us & considering none of us enjoy the taste of curry it was overwhelming.
While the atmosphere is cute & family friendly I think it misses the mark on providing sides that fit the essence of...
