Returned today, 8/10/25, to Garcia's in Buda after a long wait. The restaurant closed its doors in May/June of 2024 and began working on a remodeling effort on the inside.
We arrived, luckily, before mid-morning breakfast rush and was greeted by Malea (sp). She added our name to the waiting list, and advised they had been open about 3 weeks.
We were seated within 20 minutes, and greeted by our server, Darlene (aka Dar), who took our drink orders and gave us a few minutes to review the menu.
Our orders wereba migas taco with ham added, 2 migas plates (I ordered mine spicy), and a pork chop plate. We asked for flour tortillas. The food took about 15-20 or possibly 15 minutes to prep. This wasn't an issue as it gave us time to catch up with our guests, and the staff was very good about keeping us stocked with chips and salsa. I asked Dar for some spicier salsa, and she brought the green salsa made with Serrano peppers. It was flavorful and definitely a notch hotter.
Our food arrived and it was all good, and like I remembered. If there was was thing I would encourage the kitchen, it would be to increase the portion of the migas. This being said, my and our guests plates were clean.
I do like the new look, it is much more open and has an airy feeling.
I hope your experience, should you decide to visit, is as good or better than mine.

We were in the Buda area again today and decided to follow up and eat Garcia's for a late lunch, early dinner. There were 8 in our party and it was busy. So we had a little bit of a wait, about 45 minutes.
Once seated, we were quickly attended to, and our server was Chelsea. She took very good care of us. If there is one thing I can say about Garcia's, their service is fantastic. While I've only been twice, I can not say enough about it. The staff is professional, courteous, and service oriented. They will try to find ways to make your experience the best possible.
I've captured some photos of our dishes. All of them were very good, and the serving sizes were appropriate. The dishes ranged from enchiladas (cheese, beef, and chicken), Garcia's Delux, steak quesadillas, and some others that I do not recall.
Finally, we all found their chips and salas refreshing. Ask for the green salsa if you want it hotter.
As with my summary below, I hope your experience is as good as ours.
February 2024
I was in the Buda area looking for a place to have a Mexican breakfast. I always look for family owned restaurants so I can support the local community.
I found this place in downtown Buda and was not disappointed. We were quickly greeted, seated, and our drink orders were taken. We asked for menus so we could review our choices.
We opted for some chips and salsa to start. Quick note, the red salsa is mild. If you like the heat, request the green salsa.
I ordered the migas plate, and my wife ordered breakfast tacos. Both were very good. Note, if you like cheese on your migas, you should ask for that at your time of order.
See my parking comments for awareness. We visited on a Sunday morning at about 8:30 am.
Overall, I really enjoyed the visit, food, and atmosphere, and I will definitely be back. I hope, if you visit, your experience is as...
Read moreThis place had been closed for a long time because of staffing issues. We were excited to see this place open for dinner and opted to pay them a visit.
I went online through their website and placed the order at 5:25 PM. I get a email and a text stating my order had been received but not yet confirmed. No problem, I figure it should not take very long to get my order and drive on over. I get to their "to go" window. I was told by the young lady that they did not have anyone working the to go orders. I tell them my name and she tells me, "Oh, our computer was not plugged in, so we never got your order. We will have it right out." She tells me I can wait for it on the patio or wait inside. This was at 6:00 PM. I then get an email mess that my order was confirmed and would be ready at 6:30 PM. Gee, I am glad I did not decide to wait on your patio for another 30 minutes. We decide to go get drinks and come back. Sure enough, the food is ready at 6:30 PM.
I get home and they put my plate in different styrofoam containers, which was nice. My plate should have came with a salad. They provided dressing, but left out the salad. The picadillo had huge chunks of potato. You would think if you are going to use ground beef for your picadillo, you would dice up your potatoes, instead of leaving them so large. The picadillo had hardly any flavor to it at all. I did appreciate that the tortillas were homemade. The tortilla soup we order came with a small ziplock bag of chips. Ironically, I did notice the chips they have come in these huge bags. I was very disappointed they did not offer any chips and salsa. You could purchase some for over $10. Yeah, no. You used to get those for free. The fideo that came with my meal was good and the beans were flavorful. My kid's chicken enchiladas were covered in American cheese and not cheddar. I get that it is a cost thing; but, do not use American cheese in lieu of cheddar and call it "authentic" Mexican food.
There are signs all over about their 4% "upcharge" for using a credit card. I had joked with the lady who was at the To Go window that they should start looking for another payment processor because I can accept credit cards and do not pay anywhere near 4%.
Garcias, I am very disappointed in your service. You have been open for many years and you would think you would have it all figured out. You dropped the ball because your computer was not even plugged in and made us wait over an hour to get our food. There was zero apology for the inconvenience and zero effort to try to make it right. We have eaten at this place countless times. If this this the level of service to be expected, I am ok...
Read moreReally disappointed with my recent takeout order- the tacos I received were cold.
This is the second time this has happened to me after placing an order online.
I don't usually drive through Buda in the mornings because I live on the East side and have to drive to Austin for work. BUT few restaurants in and around Austin have good tortillas like Garcia's. So, when I decide I want to order breakfast tacos from there, it takes extra planning on my part so I can have enough time to pick up breakfast and head North.
Yesterday was one such day, however, bc the phone was not answered after trying to call multiple times, I placed an order online. Simple order, bean and chorizo tacos (bc - you CANNOT order bean and cheese tacos online, the option is literally not available, you have to order two proteins). When I arrived at the restaurant the lady at the window said there had been a 30 taco order placed ahead of mine. Whoa, that's a lot. No biggie though, I'll wait. 20 minutes later, window lady brings out the 30 taco order to a police officer and tells me it will still be another few minutes before my order is ready. Okay, no problem. I waited patiently and with excitement. Finally, my order is ready I am handed my togo bag and off I go to work.
Once on the highway, I open my first taco to find it COLD. Not like, tepid. COLD. As if it had been sitting out - away from a heat lamp - for 20 minutes. The taco was an awful, cold, mushy, salt-bomb.
I had to eat the taco despite my disgust because I need to have food with my medication and it had already been 45 minutes since I took my meds.
As I said before, this is the second time this has happened to me and though the first time I never complained, I did call. The manager offered to make new tacos if I returned but I had to get to work in Austin. She then offered give me a comp to get the same tacos in the future, which I'll say was a nice gesture, but too little too late.
I will never place an online order to this restaurant again. The lack of communication between front of the house staff and back of the house staff is consistently poor for takeout orders. Perhaps I will return to give the sit-down a try but honestly, everything I've had there so far is incredibly salty and I'm not sure it's entirely worth taking...
