Thinking about eating here?? Please read. We were a party of 10 May 9th around 5:15pm on a Thursday. Son graduated college earlier that day in San marcos. We could've gone to many other different restaurants but decided to take a gamble on this place. It seemed like they didn't want a party of 10 inside where it was nice and cool. I had the feeling they want many people on their patio so that it appears to passersby that they had a lot going on. We explained that outside was hot and humid. Our waiter kept telling us they only had outside seating. The oscillating fans they had didn't help one bit. There were flies that pestered us throughout the entirety of our meal. ALL THE OUTSIDE FANS DID NOT MIST. THEY ALL SEEMED TO ONLY DRIP WATER ON THE TABLES, ON THE GLASSWARE, AND ON THE PLATES. We asked to be seated elsewhere outside where there was more shade and at a table that wasn't profusely dripped on already. The waiter told us all the other tables had reservations. A total falsehood. We decided to stay and tough it out, thinking things would get better. They didn't. And all those other empty tables we asked to sit at remained unused during our stay. Leading me to believe that it was the waiter's ego & laziness that prevented us from getting better tables that weren't in the hot sun. Now, the food. The guacamole was surprisingly good. The bread had a nice taste but the crust was gummy and very tough to chew. The salad was nice. I ordered a rib eye and mashed potatoes and zucchini. Rib eye was okay, nice taste. Not exactly the hottest when it hit the table, though. Very odd, because the plate it was on was super hot. I guess they heat up the plates to try and give the illusion that the food is equally hot...? The potatoes were the same way. When placing my order I asked for fresh bread with my meal. The steak and potatoes came out together. The waiter disappeared and came out again but with another table's order. He rushed back out of earshot before I could get his attention. He came back out and I asked for the remainder of what I ordered. He said he'd go check on it. From the time he dropped off the steak and potatoes to the time he brought me the zucchini and bread was about 10 to 15 minutes. When he finally brought out what was lacking I politely told him that I usually expect the order to be brought out together as a whole, so I can enjoy everything all at once. He seemed bothered by that. I wasn't rude or mean or sarcastic. But isn't that pretty much the norm? Ordering a meal and it coming out to you all at once?? They weren't even busy. I had to ask for refills of my tea. Again, they weren't busy at all. Everyone else in our party wanted to be in good spirits so we all made the best of it. The restaurant didn't contribute to that. They fell short and flat. Our total bill was probably $550 at least. We were happy no matter what for our graduate. Not because of the food and service and hot atmosphere outside with all the flies. This restaurant tries to come off upscale... but they're not. If you're looking for booze and vibes... I guess you can check these guys out. But if you're looking for orders that come complete and the sense and satisfaction that you're spending your hard earned money and getting something reasonable in exchange, go...
Read moreTaste in Main is “spot on”! We have been needing a higher end dining establishment in the Buda/Kyle area for such a long time and my husband and I were thrilled with our experience at Taste on Main. First things first. This is NOT a casual dining establishment pushing out giant portions of food provided by large distributors and low prices. Don’t come here expecting that. Our waiter talked to us about their methods for fresh produce and protein sourcing and we were dually impressed. My husband and I reserved a 7:30 seating on a Sunday night and everything went perfectly. The wine selection is outstanding, as is selection of cocktails. We enjoy slow paced fine dining and at no time did we well rushed. We ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers, salads, entrees and dessert cocktails and everything was wonderful. Presentation was modern and gorgeous and freshness was OUTSTANDING. Our shrimp and cocktail and heirloom tomato carpaccio was so delightful, fresh and beautifully seasoned. It paired perfectly with the excellent drier Riesling we selected. Both my husband and I chose the house salads with the citrus vinaigrette and they served as the perfect palette cleansing yet unbelievably fragrant precursors to our entrees. Their micro greens are unbeatable. For entrees, my husband chose the Chicken Roulade and I chose the seafood bouillabaisse. Everything was pure perfection. Seafood was fresh and perfectly cooked as was my husband’s chicken. The brussels sprouts and broccolini are possibly habit forming! For desert we opted for espresso Martinis and they were the perfect desert cocktail for our coffee loving selves. Taste on Main can definitely hold a candle to most fine dining modern/American cuisine restaurants we have frequented in Manhattan. Pricing was also OUTSTANDING. For a full 4 course meal for 2 with a lovely bottle of wine and dessert cocktails we only paid a bit over $200. Our waiter Josh was an absolute pro and clearly knew how to pace a meal with the upmost professionalism and table handling. Bravo on all fronts. Cons: (only one). We do wish they had a bit of a dress code considering the elevated level of cuisine they are serving and the impeccable level of service offered. Jeans and trucker hats (worn by some patrons) just don’t seem to fit the experience. Although maybe we are just behind the times. It’s definitely not enough to keep us from becoming regulars! Everything else was fabulous and we are so glad to have this level of dining available without the drive through Austin traffic. 5 stars! Will be back very soon! This is definitely our new...
Read more10/6/23- new review: Hello good people! Gotta write another review for TASTE on MAIN. This place doesn't disappoint. We've been coming here consistently since it has opened. But tonight, they exceeded our wildest expectations. The service was phenomenal. Jack anticipated every desire, suggested exquisite dishes, and delivered our cocktails , appetizers, and main course perfectly timed. We had a dozen northeastern oysters, (simply the best 👌), ceviche, wedge salad, and the scrumptious main plate dish of brazed short ribs. OMG!!!! FREAKING DELICIOUS 😋 . I requested how they created the mouth watering flavor of the crackleicous short ribs from one of the waiters assistants. He surprised us by having the Executive Chef come to our table personally, Executive Chef Kendrick visited us with a brilliant smile delivering the finest description of the intricacies of creating one of the finest dishes we've ever tasted. Mouth watering insanity 😋. Thank you Executive Chef Kendrick, and thank you Jack for making this night the finest.
Hello people. We don't write reviews unless you need to know. We were met at the door by a woman, blonde, professional, and attentive to our requests, (sorry we didn't get her name). Our server was Ashley, knowledgeable, incredibly wonderful, suggested ideas to our many questions, including substituting mezcal in the house margaritas, (we love mezcal). I had the Sam Elliott Mustache old fashion to start, ended up switching to the mezcal margaritas cuz, they were sooo dang good! We tried the crab/spinach dip and the ceviche, followed by French onion soup, sea bass, chicken picatta, and finished with the chocolate cake. The atmosphere was perfect as we enjoyed our table seated outside in the beautiful open air of the restaurant. The service was perfect, Ashley and the team provided personal and exceptional service and care! I hope you find your experience as memorable and wonderful as we did! Well done Taste on Main Street. We'll be back again and again!!! We love...
