Update: 2 wks ago was the 1sr time we went to Komi & we liked it so much that we went back on Feb 25th. Food review is the same-above average and it is actually very good tasting for an AYCE. I would also like to commend the mongolian bbq guy today because he cooked a lot better than the other guy did when we 1st came here. I have to deduct 3 stars out of my previous 5 star review and here is why: I did not see the owber tonight, at least not by the cashier, nor was he walking around to check on things. I saw a guy who looked like him, mopping the floor, but I wasn't certain it was him so I did not approach him to complain. Today I saw not 3, not 5, but a lot more than that of stacked up plates out for customers to use and they were DIRTY. Not just a bit dirty, but looked like they were outright forgotten to get washed. It's one thing that all the stacked up plates are brought up wet, but it's another thing when they are not properly washed. No matter how good the food is, it is unacceptable to bring out dirty plates for customers to use. I must say that the floors are clean. You can see part of the kitchen floor and I will say they are clean for a restaurant so I will give this ayce buffet another chance. Hopefully the owner sees this comment ans make sure his employees do their job well even if he is not around. I am attaching a receipt to my 2/25 visit.
The food they have here are pretty much the same as other AYCE buffets. I must add they they do have a Mongolian cooking area though where a cook is present to cook the meats/seafood/veggies according to your liking. Not all AYCE has that. I am an AYCE snub because most AYCE I go to, I end up having days of diarrhea after. This is my 1st time at Komi & I am happy to say this: THIS is the 1st time I went to an AYCE buffet and actually ate soft shell crabs. Komi's crabs tasted good, unlike 99% of AYCE buffets where they season the crabs with much salt so you don't taste how old the crabs are + you can SMELL their small shells crabs and know they were cooked dead and they were bad already prior to getting cooked. Komi's crabs were surprisingly good smelling and good tasting that I went for a 2nd serving. Their shrimps are fresh tasting, and I must say this as well: I did not find one shrimp with black stuff on its shell or head like most ayce buffet does. That means their shrimps are SAFE to eat. Their food tastes good and it tastes like a la carte food, not your usual AyCe. Heck, their jello tasted good that I did not have to add it to the pudding just so it cab have some taste, like I normally do in AYCes. Their bread and their sesame balls were crispy on the outside an soft on the inside. Their wrapped chinese rice with red bean inside tasted good.
The servers did not have to be called to remove used plates or refill drinks. They anticipate the needs of their customers.
Their kitchen floors are clean and so is their drink...
Read moreI arrived 40 minutes before they were to close and they were already closing because they had no customers. So they told me to go by the lb only.. Then the cashier proceeds to provide me with 2 of the small 3 compartment Styrofoam containers. I told her those are tiny I will need several of those. She did not provide me any more containers. The food was terrible. This establishment does not abide by the 3 hour county health department time limit on storing cooked foods. Nor do they maintain the temperature on the foods. The egg rolls had been deep fried in a fryer they had cooked Seafood in and the oil had not been changed in ? Old fryer oil gets a taste to it that us very disclosing of the fact its old. The pot stickers chewed more like beef jerky. The seaweed was really really slimy. As was the kimchi. The crabs they were serving appeared to be juvenile Dungeness 3.5 inch shell. Have no idea where they are buying those? You not allowed to keep immature Dungeness 6.25 inches across top of shell. The pickled ginger was like eating a perfume bottle. The sushi terrible. The food was all cold no hot food except the soup. The Wasabi was fire though. I'm guessing they put their last food out at 6 pm some of the stuff looked so bad it was hard to believe it ever looked good. When I ask for soy the bus boy entered the bus station and picked up a pitcher sitting on the ground level shelf under the water sink that was pseudo covered with plastic wrap that was not clinging to the pitcher. My final take is this. I would never return to try it again. Chinese restaurant kitchens are the filthiest I have been in and there food handling proceedures are some of the worst. They're line of thinking is because everything goes into a walk and it's cooked at a high temperature that that will counter any foodborne illness. Across contamination, the the food might. Become subject to food they're handling of it. Cooking your egg rolls in the same deep fat fryer that you're cooking. Your deep fried fish in is just straight up. No, no for a number of reasons. Reusing your fryer oil until it gets to the point where you can taste its burnt and fishy = dirty oil. Every 3 days under regular use. Filtered every night if your not doing this what else are you not doing. Abiding buy the department if fish and game laws. Add to that they don't abide by health code limits on holding cooked at 140°. I purchased 2 lbs of food for $15 and threw away 1.5 lbs. KOMI backwards is IM OK. and that's only because I placed the food where it belonged. In the...
Read moreWe came for dinner Monday evening and the place was empty. We thought they were closed and had to double check the time because there was no one there except one small family at the far side of the restaurant. A few minutes after we started eating, my friend looks over and points at the space next to me on the booth. There was a COCKROACH just chilling next to me in the seat back of the booth. It looks like it crawled out of the space in between the back and the seat. I jumped up and we started looking around for an employee but no one was near us so my friend took a napkin and smushed the cockroach. She went up to the trash where there was an employee and showed her the roach and she didn't say anything. She just gave my friend a blank stare and kind of shrugged so my friend threw the napkin in the trash in front of her. We sort of lost our appetite after that. They still charged up full price and didn't even say anything or apologize for the roach. Right before leaving we went to the restroom and the restaurant was completely empty. We were there for a while and they probably thought the place was completely empty because they started loudly taking and cleaning up. We walked out of the restroom and the lady that was at the sushi station was PULLING LEFT OVER KIMCHI OFF THE SERVING TONGS WITH HER BARE HANDS AND PUTTING THEM BACK ON THE PILE. she froze for a second when she saw us watching her and she just went on about her business. We walked out super grossed out hoping we wouldn't be sick.
-food was cold -employees walking around aimlessly with glazed look in their eyes -cockroach friendlier than employees -employee touching wet food with no gloves
They didn't have a letter grade at the door btw. Not sure if that's an Orange County thing.
