I saw the spot in Vernon Hills and thought I'd give it a try at some point but I know that the Vernon Hills outlet is always stacked to the brim anytime the sun is out.
This spot will certainly get to that amount as well, but at least there's overflow parking with the nearby Jewel and other stores nearby.
I had the fish and chips, which had some crispy fries and a rich tartar sauce. The lemon helped to cut down the fat but the added in-house sauces provided by the waiter didn't do the dish justice. The sauces provided were their rendition of ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, and vinegar-based hot sauce/tabasco.
The lettuce wraps were pretty disappointing. There were 4 layers of lettuce followed by the chicken and sauce, which between the 3 of us is apparently considered as a large shareable? I can't help but imagine that lettuce is actually pretty cheap and giving it so sparingly here is a bit of a misstep.
It was stated that some of the menu items that were highlighted are favored by the regulars but many of the recommendations didn't reach the fam's expectations. Probably safer to choose a burger next time.
Pop said the grilled trout wasn't cooked well at all. It seemed like they didn't boil the vegetables all the way, so a portion of it remained solid to chew and charred the...
Read moreAfter landing at Ohare, in the late afternoon, we were looking for a good meal before heading to our hotel. The Lazy Dog (LDRB), in Buffalo Grove, was the perfect choice. We began with two of their new Starters, Cauliflower Ceviche and the Spring Pea Hummus (what?!) You read that correctly and I hope you try these. Quite surprising and equally tasty. We shared the BBQ Ranch Bacon Burger and the Firecracker Shrimp along with a Old Pal White Ale and Huckleberry Lemonade. The food was delicious, well proportioned for a meal (our order was easily shareable), and a very good value. Torie was our attentive waitress, answering our questions, providing fair food recommendations, with a gracious attitude and sincere smile. Thank you Torie! The personality did not end with Torie. The Executive Chef, Tyler Hernandez, introduced himself and inquired about our experience and we answered enthusiastically. We live in Southern California and have a LDRB that we visit regularly. The high expectations we had coming here were easily met and exceeded. I'll be looking at the Beer Club at my local LDRB when I return home. Sorry...
Read moreA Pleasant Surprise!
The first time we visited this Lizzedok location, we were truly surprised — in the best way. It’s nothing like the other place with the same name, which my friend warned me to avoid (and now I see why). This one is completely different!
From the start, the experience was great. We had a wonderful young waiter who spoke both Russian and English fluently. He was incredibly kind, helpful, and professional — the kind of service you don’t often get anymore. Thanks to him, we decided to come back a second time.
The service on our return visit was just as good, but unfortunately, the food let us down. I ordered fish — and that was a mistake. It was clearly old, frozen fish, covered in spicy peppers to mask the poor quality. I could only feel the burn in my mouth, not any real flavor. The fries were overcooked and had those little burnt bits that really shouldn’t be on the plate.
That said, the service deserves five stars. The waitstaff is truly excellent — especially the young man who helped us during our first visit. I wish I knew his name, because he really made an impression. Huge...
