Joe's Deli on Hertel Avenue truly embodies the soul of Buffalo’s dining scene with its warm, family-friendly atmosphere and a staff that makes you feel right at home from the moment you step through the door. Visiting this deli isn’t just about grabbing a bite to eat; it’s about experiencing the comforting embrace of a community hub that’s been delighting locals and visitors alike since its opening in August 2006.

Standing proudly in the same location as the iconic Mastman’s Delicatessen, Joe's Deli has continued a legacy of culinary excellence. The deli takes pride in its daily offerings of homemade soups, which are a testament to the freshness and care put into their menu. These soups vary from classic recipes that soothe the soul to innovative concoctions that intrigue the palate, each one steaming with homemade goodness.

However, it's the sandwiches that are the stars of the show. Whether you choose a classic or a specialty creation, every sandwich is a masterpiece of flavors and textures. The "Build Your Own Sandwich" option is a canvas for your cravings, with a variety of high-quality meats, cheeses, veggies, and condiments to choose from. And for those with specific dietary preferences, gluten-free bread is a considerate touch.

The hot sandwiches are a particular delight, especially my personal favorite – Jimmy’s Cuban. The marinated pork loin and Sahlen’s ham come together with lorraine swiss and the perfect pickles, then finished with a tangy honey mustard on grilled ciabatta. It’s a fusion of taste that transports you to the vibrant streets of Havana with each bite.

The specialty sandwich that nods to their first location, the Hertel / Colvin, also deserves a mention, showcasing the deli's deep connection to its roots. But let’s not forget the inventive "The Hangover" sandwich – a hearty and bold choice, or the new "The OCH," with its sweet and savory blend, truly a delight with its caramelized apples and melted Brie.

Chips and a pickle neatly accompany each sandwich, though upgrading to the fresh cut French fries is always a tempting choice. For the full Joe’s Deli experience, you simply must try the Beef on Weck, a Buffalo staple, served here with the juiciest slow roasted beef and that essential kick of horseradish sauce.

To conclude, Joe’s Deli isn’t just another stop on Hertel Avenue – it's a culinary cornerstone that has secured its place in the hearts of all who cherish good food and good company. Whether you’re a Buffalo native or just passing through, make sure you stop by Joe’s Deli. Trust me, after one visit, you’ll be...

My review is only for the Hummus Wrap, that was a take-out order.

I looked at their online menu, and ordered a hummus wrap as it is one of the only veggie options, plus it states this wrap was the winner of the Taste of Buffalo Healthy Choice award, so I had to try it right?

After reading all the other reviews of Joe's Deli I was super excited to try it out only to be slowly unimpressed after each bite.

I am giving 3* for the quality/taste of the ingredients. The feta was incredible, everything was fresh, I am super pleased about sprouts in any sandwhich and the hummus had good taste and texture.

Then there was this 'olive salad' just totally flatlined the wrap for me, the amount of oil ruined the freshness, and eventually made the wrap all greasy and wet, then the blend of green and black olives plus feta made it extremely overly salty - and on top of that there was some kind of spicy element to the olive salad which I didn't expect from a hummus wrap.

Each bite just had this inconsisent flavour because the ingredients werent laid out well - like I didn't get everything in 1 bite, instead one bite had no this, the other bite had no that.

I would get the wrap again, just w/o that olive salad +...

Let me start by saying that I've been a loyal customer to Joe's for a few years. The last few experiences I've had there have completely negated those years of good service. After calling in an order for pickup today, I was told that they did not receive the order. Coincidentally, they also did not receive the order of the customer who was in line ahead of me. They tried to convince me that I called the other location, but after calling the other location they found that they didn't have my order either.

After re-ordering, a staff member started to make my sandwiches when another customer came in. In the middle of making my food the staff member took another customer's money, returned him his change and proceeded to continue making my food without removing her gloves. Upon me commenting on handling money then handling my food she replied that, "I'm sorry, It's just so hard to remove the gloves once they are on."

What's more, after finishing my food they found that they in fact did have my original order, only they got it so wrong that it wasn't distinguishable as what I actually ordered. I will not be giving this business any further patronage. Joe's Deli has lost a...

This place was one of our favorite restaurants in Buffalo and frequented for years when it was on Elmwood. After they suddenly and unexpectedly closed up shop there we came to this one on Hertle thinking we might have the same experience. We will never be coming back. Service was cold and weird. Our food came out at such a staggered rate my wife was done with her sandwich before mine came to the table. The food was also not the same. The egg salad was old and dry. One of my favorite sandwiches of all time, the 'Johnny Be Good" had half the amount of marinated fried tofu as it should have. Like half of each side of the sandwich was just empty. Something is seriously wrong with this place. I hope they close up this one too.

I'm a 'native Buffalonian' and was home visiting. So I tried this establishment and I have to say I was disappointed. First, the service was ok. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. But it's the food that counts... right!? So, I ordered the Cutlet sandwich. Let me say it was dry and the flavor was one note. There obviously wasn't enough mayo on this sandwich. The other ingredients had no distinct flavor. There was also a kind of weird taste.. wasn't sure what but something was Off, I don't know if the meat or another ingredient was going bad or what!!! 😵‍💫 Then they give you this kindergarten sized bag of chips...I mean really!!?? Just really disappointed for my first bite back in Buffalo. 😒😠
