Have enjoyed Buffalo-style pizza all my life and have been trying out some of the less widely-known neighborhood places. Of course Buffalonians know about Bocce’s, La Nova, Imperial, Santora’s and others, and there are also many other great places you should try for new experiences, and to support these local gems, as well. I had pizza and wings tonight at Wise Guys Pizza in South Buffalo on Seneca Street - and both were GREAT! As a first-timer, I was made very welcome. I wish I had asked for the name of the young lady who took my order, but she was very nice and went out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed. It’s so great to see people who are kind and enjoy their jobs and are really great and friendly with customers. When my food was ready, I decided to eat there. Why not eat it right out of the oven?!? The pizza was Buffalo-Style at its finest - and they were not chincy on the ingredients. More cheese than most of the bigger places and lots of cup-and-char pepperoni, too. The wings were good, meaty and I had them crispy, because that’s how I like ‘em. It was fun just people-watching as neighborhood people strolled in and out with their food. Everyone was smiling and friendly. This neighborhood didn’t seem to have gotten the memo that everyone needs to be angry these days. ☺️ This part of South Buffalo has a great vibe with lots of activity and many businesses operating quite successfully. Buffalo people generally like to stay within their basic neighborhoods/areas, but if you’re not from South Buffalo - make it an adventure and see a great place and well-kept secret. Head to Wise Guys - and take a look at this well-preserved and loved section of Buffalo. You’ll be glad you did - and you’ll love the pizza!

WOW! I had know of their restaurant before I moved to the area. Finding out I was just down the street made this a "must try!" Not one disappointed expectation. Walking in you are welcomed into a mix of Buffalo pride meets Mafia nostalgia. We checked out the menu which wasn't too big or too small. We settled on large cheese pizza and wings. A reasonable 20 min wait. We sat and took in all the pictures, I was drawn to a large article on the wall that spoke of a great storm that wrecked the area and this was the only pizza place to stay open (there are many pizza places here lol) we played an old school arcade game they had in the front window, before we knew it our food was up. A very pleasant staff reviewed our order completely making sure we got a peek at our pizza to make sure it was cooked to our taste (this goes a long way with me! A restaurant that isn't afraid to show you what they put in the box tells me they are confident in making sure I'm satisfied) we got home and the pizza was just as good as it looked. I was impressed the cheese was real mozzarella and I could immediately that it was fresh. Overall just a great experience!

Fresh and Hot. Sauce is on the sweeter side, not overpowering pairs excellently with the crust Underneath the cheese and sauce the slice is soft at first almost a pillowy texture and ends in a perfect bite thanks to the nice golden crisp on the bottom. Could of used a little more cheese to the edge of the crust, but plenty throughout. Sausage was typical sausage for pizza. It will satisfy your pizza munchie craze hands down. Overall the experience was great. Pizza was incredible however I wish the cheese reached the edge, personal preference i know. I didn't take off points for it though. We dined outside. Very nice view on Seneca street. We even gave a random individual our last two slices and noticed when we were pulling away he had a huge smile on his face and must of enjoyed it as much as we did. Pizza Rating 8.5 ****Update**** Here again at Wiseguys....my review hasnt changed. Sauce is impeccable. Pizza has a very good bite and crisp to it as always. #1 in South Buffalo. Go Bills

I first went to Wise Guys in 2014 when I was working on a comprehensive review of the 2-slice and drink lunch special offered by most local pizzerias. I made it my goal to (once or twice a week) visit a different pizzeria in WNY, have that lunch special, take a menu, and publish a detailed review for my out-of-town friends on my Facebook account. Mostly to make them jealous of moving and losing the best pizza in the world, but also to try and motivate them to come back for a visit now and then.

Anyway, there is NO mistaking this great place from the street. They have a very cool exterior storefront. It only gets better once you go inside. TONS of cool framed photos, news articles, and celebrities adorn the walls. Dining room is very spacious.

When I began this project, I did my best not to necessarily go for lunch at the standard high noon time, when it would be most likely when slice pies are freshest. Sometimes I would go at the earliest lunch hour (usually 10:30) or the latest lunch hour (usually 2:00) in order to see who cared about serving the freshest slices, no matter what the time was.

I went to Wise Guys at 1:45 for their 2-slice and a drink lunch special for $5.99. This was 15 minutes before the lunch special was over at 2:00. I expected some old-dried-out slices that they would have to reheat for a few minutes in order to bring them "back to life" so to speak. This is the case at probably 50% of the pizzerias that I visited during my project.

What I received, was quite the opposite. Two HUGE, oven-fresh, very "juicy" (meaning: nice warm pizza sauce, cheese very bubbly and slightly browned-over, and the cup-and-char pepperoni had those lovely and flavorful little 'grease' bowls going on) slices. The slices were so hot and fresh, that I had to blow on them a bit to make them a bit cooler to handle and DEVOUR, which I did. I didn't even think about taking a drink, until I was finished eating both slices. I was completely obsessed with them, because they were just THAT delicious.

If you go to South Buffalo for pizza, this should be your go-to destination. If you LIVE in South Buffalo, you should have these guys on speed-dial on your phone. I live in University Heights currently (where there is a complete LACK of good pizza) so I am saving up to find a flat near Wise Guys just to be closer to them.

"If you make the BEST pizza, they will move."

UPDATE: I recently moved to the Emslie District and I just made their 3-mile delivery cutoff! I finally got to try one of their specialty pizzas, The Tony Soprano and it was excellent in all aspects! Try one and you will...
