My friends and I have been coming to Shelly's for years, drawn by their classic breakfasts—especially the real shredded hash browns and generously portioned dishes like the Monte Cristo and French toast, which have always set this place apart from most diners.
Unfortunately, on my recent visit, despite the still-great menu and sizable, appetizing breakfast, we encountered a cockroach climbing our booth, which completely ruined our meal!
While the manager acknowledged ongoing pest control issues, there was no offer to comp or discount the meal, which added to our disappointment.
I want to love this place as much as I used to, but after experiencing both poor service on a previous visit and a concerning cleanliness issue on this one, I no longer feel comfortable returning. I attempted to find a way to contact the owner before writing this review, but they don’t have a website and I could not find any contact information.
I strongly urge Shelly’s to prioritize a thorough decluttering and deep cleaning of the dining room and kitchen areas. A clean, uncluttered environment is essential not only to prevent pest problems like the cockroach we encountered but also to provide a safe and pleasant dining experience. Regular removal of debris, sanitizing all surfaces including tables, chairs, floors, and kitchen equipment, and maintaining high-touch areas (and the pile of liquid hand soap on the floor in the restroom along with the disgusting clutter that looks to be employees belongings) can restore confidence in their hygiene standards. Consistent attention to these cleaning protocols will demonstrate commitment to both food safety and customer satisfaction. I hope the management takes immediate action to restore the high standards Shelly's was once known for. I can only imagine what the kitchen must look like based on what I’ve seen in the dining room, restrooms, and hallway. And of course our little cockroach friend. 🤢
Based on my last few experiences, along with some of the other reviews I’ve read here and their lack of business and attention to service and cleanliness I will be surprised if this place will be open...
Read moreMy daughter and I thought we’d try something different for breakfast and went to Shelly’s. There was a short wait and we were sat within a few minutes. That was the best part of the entire experience. After being sat we were greeted with ‘what do you guys want to drink’ by a young kid who was clearly not our server and had little to no training on how to greet a table. After 10 min our server finally came over and took our order. She was pleasant but no acknowledgement of how it took her to get there. I ordered the pancake special and my daughter ordered a cheese omelette with a side pancake as well as a Mimosa. The server is apparently the bartender as well because 10 minutes later we saw her making the drink; she brought it over, again with no mention of how long it took. I guess there is no sense of urgency at Shelly’s. Just sit tight and be patient because we’re busy and staffed up with a lot of people who don’t know how to prioritize and can only do one thing at a time. Multi-tasking is not in their wheelhouse. Our food came about 20 min later. My pancakes were burnt and chewy and my daughter’s omelette was a cheddar omelette with ham; then as I was eating my eggs I found a hair in them. Not only did she not get what she ordered, what I ordered was not very good. I might’ve asked to speak to someone about it but it seemed pointless - I had already decided I wasn’t coming back and the vibe there was ‘this is the best we can do so deal with it.’ The server knew the order was wrong and anyone could clearly see my pancakes were burnt but no discount was offered. If you want return customers you should at least make sure the ones you’ve got are leaving happy and bad food or service is recognized. Sorry Shelly, but the potential for your cute little breakfast nook is only that - just potential with very...

My husband and I moved to the Angle Lake neighborhood about 2 1/2 years ago, and we have struggled to find a great breakfast spot. This morning we ventured the 10 minutes into Burien to try out Shelly's. At 9am on a Sunday the place was hoppin', but we were able to be seated immediately in the 21+ lounge area. The menu had lots of great vegetarian options for my husband, and as a devotee of a great eggs bene, I had lots of versions to choose from. My hubby opted for the Feisty Vegetarian Omelet, and I went with the classic eggs benedict. While we waited for our food we enjoyed very decent cups of coffee with frequent refills offered by the attentive young waitstaff. When the food arrived we were floored by the sheer amount of food on each of our plates. After the first bite, we knew we had chosen wisely. The breakfast potatoes were divine. My husband absolutely HATES dill, so we were a little nervous as the breakfast potatoes have fresh herbs, including dill, baked into their crispy little tater bodies. The dill brought a delicious and interesting flavor, but it was subtle enough that my husband didn't mind at all. The omelet was chock full of veggies, and the jalapenos were fresh and spicy. The ham on my eggs bene was delicious and seemed fresh carved versus the usual Canadian Bacon rounds served at many local places. The total bill for two coffees and two entrees was just shy of $35. After striking out at places like 13 Coins and Huckleberry Square, we are over-the-moon to have found...
