I am editing my review. I recently posted about how awesome their bagels are and the service was great. But the last 2 times I have been in, the owner has had an attitude with me for merely placing a pick up order. I went in Thursday to place an order for 7am Saturday. A dozen bagels sliced. When I placed the order, the owner got nasty and said "why can't people slice their own bagels anymore?" I said sorry but your knives are sharper and im throwing a party and its one less thing for me to worry about. I told him I would pay extra for them to be cut. He shook his head like whatever. Then told me ok see you tomorrow. (This was Thursday and the order was for Saturday so I corrected him) I had also asked for 6 addtl bagels to bring home that day. After I paid, he dismissed me and I said I just need the bagels for today. He said "let me grow more hands so I can help you faster" I apologized again and said sorry I thought since it was confusing so I just wanted to be sure we were on the same page. The cut to this morning when I went to pick up the bagels. I got there early and was waiting in the car. I saw someone go in and assumed they were open because it was close to 710am. He yelled at me they weren't open and I should know bc the lights weren't on. Which I couldn't tell from my car. Then I asked for my order and he snapped at me they were being sliced now. Then he yelled at me "no more orders for sliced bagels at 7am. No earlier than 730 from now on. Don't make me fight with customers this early in the morning"... I said dont worry. I won't be back. The owner of this bagel store is a friend of my brother in law's and came highly recommended. But after seeing how he talks to his customers, I will no longer give them my money. I buy bagels once or twice a week. But I'd rather drive 30 minutes to my old bagel store than ever step back into this establishment. I also see that every negative review left for this place is responded to (by the owner) telling people "wah wah, cry about it, etc" so not only is the guy an a$$ but also doesn't seem to care to read why people are upset and make changes so that more people are happy. I have worked in bagel stores for almost 10 years of my life and would never respond to my patrons in...
Read moreHorrible experience being there for the first time. The man with the dirty undershirt at the counter at first seemed okay to take our order but then quickly became impatient while we ordered ($50!!! WORTH of food)…. We ordered bagels that when looking to choose from said under his breath “Why does this have to be so hard”… which then made us then realize his lack of knowledge on how to be a good business owner and treat people may be a beginning to something not so good here. Not to mention he has a sign up with lunch food that DOES NOT say “weekends only breakfast sandwiches are made” (which we came to order not only bagels but lunch sandwiches at 11:30am today) which he was annoyed we were trying to order lunch due to false advertising. Needless to say I never got what I wanted but my daughter did as he made us feel like it was chore to actually do what his menu says they do. He bragged “all we do is breakfast sandwiches” (even though they have lunch menu)… as a business owner myself, customers especially new ones shouldn’t expect not only false advertising but also the rudeness displayed. However by the way he was dresssed (especially when dealing with FOOD) and his lack of employees (maybe because he’s a cheapskate) this experience explains why he runs his business the way he does. I’m sure his food is good but quality in treatment is everything. I will not be recommending others go there. The owner could use some training himself and a decent outfit when handling food and being the face of the company. The only reason why I gave a 2 instead of one star is because we at least got half of what we wanted. Before I left there I explained to him would be a good idea he change his false advertisement to avoid others being treated the way we were treated. Only reason for writing this review is PEOPLE NEED to be ACCOUNTABLE for THEIR ACTIONS otherwise the nonesense will continue to happen there (maybe he’ll advertise right from here on out -your welcome...
Read moreI randomly came across the Bagel Zone and was further interested in trying them since they've won "Best of" from the Courier Post for three years in a row.
I will say that the breakfast Sandwich was good, but I will also say that (thus far) the best bagels I've ever had from SJ are from a different place.
The Bagel I tried from here was their Bacon & Egg Bagel. Although it was tasty, I would have wanted more of the bacon in their-forward taste when biting into it. I didn't taste the bacon until the finishing point from my third bite. I was, however, tasting the poppy seeds in the dough from the first bite. I'm not sure if the poppy seeds were incorporated to be creative and/or distinctive for this bagel, and I'm aware that other people may love the poppy seeds; I, however, would choose to eliminate them from the dough and maybe add some extra bacon (or bacon fat) to the dough to make that flavor more pronounced in the tasting profile.
Either way, the bagel breakfast Sandwich was filling and given how popular the place was (a rather long line) the service time was on par for how busy it was. Something that I applaud the Owner or management team for, as they readily let people know they were getting everyone's orders done, and will be with the new customers in a moment.
The unfortunate factor is that some customers do not understand food takes time to cook, especially when balancing lots of orders at one time....so to anyone visiting The Bagel Zone or any other eatery...please be patient as it takes time to prepare your food, and everyone else's who came in before you.
I say this because two people walked out in a huff while we were waiting (patiently), and one other customer became agitated and argued with the staff-staff that remained patient & friendly in spite of being unnecessarily yelled at.
So great job to the staff! I appreciate that you were communicating, friendly, and prepped, cooked, & completed my and everyone else's meals in a...
