Butter Bar & Kitchen — Restaurant in Burlington

Looks nice at first, but then it gets real. We were seated promptly just to wait around for a waiter to get our drink order. We then continued to wait another 10 minutes for those drinks. Meanwhile a different waiter comes over to take our food order. While waiting for our food, the original waiter came to take our order that was already taken by someone else. We recieved our appetizer (Crispy Brussel Sprouts) which were amazing and served hot! 20 minutes or so later, our meals come out. First looks are inviting. Everything looks great. But here's the thing, my steak overcooked and cold, eggs, overcooked and luke warm. English muffin cold. There was so much powdered sugar on my wife's French toast, it was all you could taste, and they were cold. The wait staff had no cares about us. We were left there with our subpar food the whole time. When the original waiter finally came back to ask how everything was, she didn't even give me a chance to answer before she walked off. Even after looking right at the steak that I had taken off my plate and set at the edge of the table, she just walks away. After about 15 minutes waiting for our check, we can finally leave. $80!!!! Was pleasantly surprised by Butter Bar! There were fewer options on the menu than I anticipated but we were pleased to see so many gluten free and vegetarian options as neither of us eat red meat. We ordered the artichoke dip which came with house made corn chips - this was a creamy and crunchy masterpiece. I got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and the meat was on the thinner side but was incredible. Almost no fatty bits and the meat was juicy and tender - cooked perfectly. The bun it was on was also expertly crafted. I got onion rings and a Young at Heart ginger beer which is one of my favorite local businesses- glad this place has so many local VT offerings! My partner got the kale caesar salad which was amazing! And we were honestly both blown away by the quality. This is a great spot and awesome it is so close by. The wait staff were speedy and kind and the drink and dessert menu was extensive. We finished the Valentines evening off with a piece of delicious vanilla cheesecake and were surprised by how fair the bill was - less than 25 bucks a person for all that food!! Left very disappointed. We wanted the chilaquiles and were told they ran out. Fine.. But then we order the cauliflower bites and root salad and here come the cauliflower bites with literally only 2 cauliflowers on the plate, that looked like they were cut up into tiny pieces to make it look like there was more and threw on some extra lettuce. Really guys? The server came out and asked if everything was ok and we said “well not really, there’s only a few pieces of cauliflower on the plate.” And the server responds “ oh yeah sorry the kitchen ran out.” This was a perfect chance for her to make our terrible experience a little better. Yet she chose to do absolutely nothing and brought out the tab with a full price on the cauliflower bites. It’s a shame because the food was actually good but we won’t be coming back because of the lack of decent service.
