Unfortunately, our reservation at another restaurant was canceled due to some restaurant issues. Our group needed a space at the last minute. No one in the group had ever heard of the space or had the pleasure of enjoying it. We were grateful there was a private space we could utilize on such short notice. My husband gave me a heads up..."Boo, you won't like it." I'm pretty easy going and if its Mexican...how bad can it be?? In Mississippi they are all the same right? NO NO NO!! So many issues upon entering the restuarant. Host was on the phone and bearly lifted her head to welcome us when we entered. She was on her 📱. We informed her we were in the private dining room and her response was "ya'll can go ahead." Future reference notes for anyone that hosts at a restaurant:"Hello, welcome how can I assist you all today? "...."Yes you all will be in the private room, right this way..." , "Enjoy!" Server...I did not know she was the server...no type of uniform. Just a bright color t-shirt and ath-lesuire pants. Honestly thought she was a guests walking into the room. Asked for menus to see cocktail options...menus were sticky and nasty with residue (great opportunity for hosts here....cleaning and sanitizing menus after each use wound be awesome--even if Covid did not exist--a definite to do list item) Server and D.J. had a little drama with the bluetooth speaker that was brought in for our group... the F-bomb was used numerous times between the two. Chips and salsa was brought out. Styrofoam bowls were stacked to be used for the salsa...we were dining in not taking out. Food came out pretty fast. The first items did not belong to our group. I was missing my tomatillo salsa salsa requested it after food was brought out.. never got it but, I totally understand the server was busy and was also picking up other tables. A roach fell from the ceiling. Yes. True story. I get it. Food + restuarant +improper cleaning = Roaches. Bound to happen eventually. And it could be they had a recent pest control visit. Got it. BUT... when one lady received her order of the steak fajitas...there was a roach cooked into her food...we were really over it. We requested the manager. He came in quickly. We explained the falling roach + roach in food. He asked if our guest would like a fresh order of steak fajitas. 😉 . And his response the the roach that fell on the table was, "There is a door to the patio that is near this room, that it must have come through, because we don't have roaches." It's the only explanation. Hint Hint: An apology would have been awesome and a gesture of good measure would have been to comp the check for the one lady that received the food with the 🪳. Payment time: we took down decor and loaded. Went back to confirm all was well with the room. Our casual server returned with a check in a very aggressive tone saying that someone didn't pay. We all produced cc slips + the guests that left sent over pics of there cc slips. Everyone that received a ticket paid. For 30 mins I went through the process of elimination marking off all paid checks on her print out. Verbally trying to explain to the server that there was a mix up on their end. The security guard mentioned he has had to chase people 🙄 😒 for unpaid tickets. No need to chase here, sir! The accusations continued...manager comes again. Server explains aggressively to him. I...we correct her. He concludes that ya'll paid but someone else didn't. Server claims someone took the wrong check. In the end after lots of back and forth with unkind words...unfortunately, they finally accept it was mistake on their end. Again, no apology for the miscommunication. And lady with the bug in food did only have to pay $4.00. I get it, I have high expectations. No matter how casual there are basic hospitality points that should be meet. The customer is NOT always right. But, what they say should be considered 😌. Problem resolution was totally absent here. Only blame and unaccountability. I hope they can get it figured out, I always want to see small...
Read moreWould give this place 0 stars if i could. Went there today to eat with a few friends, and asked for a certain server and told to wait 10-15 mintues. 20 mintues passed and we told the lady we would be find with any server, and then we were seated. Soon after being seated a one of the male workers came to our table and said “ do you want to speak to my manager “ we said no and then he asked the lady behind the cash register named Bethany if we were the table who asked for the manager and she laughed and said nothing. Then the man proceeded to say “ i need To see all of your ID’s if you want to speak to the manager “ and then walked off. Our server came and we ordered food and ALL of us got WATER with our meals. Waiting about 20 minutes and our water never came, no food, no one asked if we needed anything even though our server walked past our table many times. We waiting a few more minutes still nothing so we decided to leave. We told Bethany behind the cash register we were leaving and we left and went to elsom across the street. We sat down ordered our food and got it right away everything there was perfect. Shortly after we got our food my friend got a message on Facebook from the woman behind the cash register named Bethany saying “ you need to come back and pay for your food or we are filling charges and we will charge your card. If you don’t pay for your food we have too. “ even thought we never got our food at all and told her we were leaving. We called and explained we never ate any food and she told us “ you still have to pay for your drinks “ when we got WATER which is free and never even received it. We asked to talk to the manager and she said nothing and we hung up. After we finished our food at elsom we went back to this restaurant and my friend went in and spoke to Bethany and the manager in which she denied ever saying these things to us and her manger then said most of the things she told us was false. The manager was decently nice about the situation and bethany got in trouble. Bethany should be fired for taking time when she is on the clock to search my friend on Facebook and personally message us harassing us for THEIR poor service and customer service. Moral of the story is every time I’ve been here it has been awful, food is not good, customer service is terrible. Save your money and do not come here. Go across the street to elsom or somewhere else that is actually...
Read moreI finally found a place that serves some traditional Mexican dishes that I haven't been able to find here in the Sip! My Fast Food King grew up in Texas, so he loves his TexMex, he's a Tacos and Quesadillas kinda guy. As for me, I grew up in Cali, so I constantly look for the fresh raw seafood cured in various citrus aguachiles. We ordered the 3-tier seafood tower, and the grilled octopus entrée. I love that it's a big sample of their oysters, chilled molcajete, and coctel.
Bottom tier: Raw oysters with seasoned boiled clams - If you want an elevated raw oyster dish, this is it! We got half with verde aguachile and the other half was the rojo aquachiles. If you've never heard of aguachiles, it's different chiles blended in a citrus marinade and is used to cure your seafood. The oysters were topped with pico and cured shrimp. They were both delicious, but the rojo aguachile was the favorite of the two, it had a nice sweetness to it, but I gotta warn you it has a kick. I'd definitely order this again 10/10
Middle tier: Chilled Seafood Molcajete - There were a ton of seafood all marinated and cured in what seems like a chilled gazpacho, that's the best I can describe it, he called it Mexican Poké 😆 This was also good, but not better than the oysters and the coctel 8/10
Top tier: Shrimp Coctel - I've had shrimp coctel that taste like tangy ketchup water, you know the water that first comes out of a bottle when you forgot to shake it? And some coctel just taste way too sweet, and I have to adjust it to my liking. This one was perfect! I literally didn't have to add anything at all, and that's rare haha 9/10
Grilled Octopus - When it came out it looked like a giant octopus steak! I've never had one that was melt in your mouth tender, you could cut it with a fork. For the folks that wants to try octopus, I HIGHLY recommend getting it here. This dish is only available on weekends so get it if you can! 10/10
He kept saying "This is so good, one of the best meals we've had in a min!" I was surprised to hear that because these aren't Mexican dishes that he'd usually order. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed everything! Service was awesome, place is spacious and great for big parties, definitely worth the 40mins drive for us, and can't wait to come back. Included menu for y'all.
