I’m usually not one to write a bad review. I believe that we are all human and subject to mistakes, so I let alot of things slide based on kindness.
I will only write a review if I feel it’s beneficial for a company or my community to know of an experience. This was sadly one of those horrific experiences.
My fiance and two daughters (13 month and 5 years) went in Tuesday at 7:00pm. It was an hour from closing and there were two other families there, so 3 tables total.
It was dead silent, no music, no conversation, just silence. We could hear chatter from the kitchen that was jovial in nature. There was a manager, a server and two cooks in staff.
About 2min into standing at the “please wait to be seated” sign, we were greeted and taken to our table. A little slow, but we understood it was nearing closing time, so Grace was given.
After being greeted, the server took our drink order and then the manager came over and made sure she did, it seemed like she was green, so again…Grace was given.
After that, the other two tables checked out and we were alone. I should add that our daughters are fantastic in diner settings so it’s not like we were being obnoxious or disruptive.
After longingly staring at both the manager and server, it seemed like the cooks in the back were the ones to notice our orders hadn’t been taken yet.
The server who was very much more interested in flirting with the manager, finally decided to come over and take our orders. They were simple. A kids chicken finger and fries, an adult chicken fingers and fries and a big boy classic burger and fries
The server took the order and then disappeared. It took about 20min for the food to come out and about another 5min for the food to sit in the window before the manager and server returned and noticed. You could tell the cooks seemed very frustrated as well with the ignoring posture of the manager and server.
The food came, it was delicious, seriously props to those two cooks! But here is where it got worse. The server didn’t bring any sauce, which she had written down on her order book, we had to flag her back down from her closing with to bring us some.
We tried to eat as fast as possible, having both worked in the service industry, we knew the staff wanted to go home and they deserve that respect.
After bringing back to the sauce another 5min and a disappearing act later, we were completely ignored. We asked for two boxes and a 5min server adventure led to a single box, so I just packed two meals into one.
Another 15min of waiting for the check prompted me to just bus the table myself (literally not kidding) and go stand with my family at the checkout again longingly looking at the server and manager as they blatently ignored us.
I finally told my fiance to take the girls to the car, which got their attention.
I still tipped because that’s the kind of people we are, but the fact that 3 days later, I’m still sour about this shows there is a DEEP level of disappointment at play.
Big boy, I know this location isn’t profitable, I know you keep it around because it serves some sort of location based greater plan…but dang, you’re really showing a level of service that screams “we don’t care” if you let this kind of...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went there last night because he had never been before and wanted to give it a shot. We read the reviews beforehand and decided to see if the experiences mentioned of long wait times, terrible service, and mediocre food were one off’s. We walk in and the place is larger than expected and we were greeted and shown to a booth. The server asked us what we would like to drink and she brings it out immediately and tells us who our server will be. That was the end of the great experience. We sat there for an incredibly long time and no one came to check on us. Finally a server, who had been standing at the carry out section comes over and asks if we had just been helped to which we said, “No. No one has come by to take our order.” She then takes our order but not once did she apologize for the long wait time or anything. She left but came back 5 minutes later and asks if I want a side salad because it comes with my meal so I said sure. It took another 10 minutes to get the salad and all it was was a pile of iceberg lettuce, a ton of shredded cheese dumped on top, a handful of croutons, and 3 slivers of red onions with honey mustard. I ate a few of the croutons. When our food finally came out, it was luke warm and mid at best. My boyfriend had very little fries and the server said she was bringing more fries. Those finally showed up at the end of his meal about 15-20 minutes later. We than sat and waited for our ticket and by this time I was exhausted and tired of waiting so we went to the register and paid. The original girl who sat us helped us and she was friendly. The entire time we were there, she was running around working hard, talking to her customers at her tables. Ours was pretty much nowhere to be seen. We got the impression that maybe she was new but that doesn’t excuse her complete lack of service. Maybe if the service was better, we could have overlooked the lukewarm, overcooked food.
It was a terrible experience and I can’t believe we paid $30+ for mediocre fish and chips, and southern fried chicken dinner with terrible service. We left saying we should have gone to where we originally planned. I am not from this area and this was my first and last experience with a Big Boy restaurant. (The great server was short with long black hair btw. Ours was taller, short light ashy brown hair with a...
Read moreIt was a snow day. Schools closed. The waitress was friendly and came fairly promptly, as we were one of 6 customers at the time. I ordered an egg white veggie omelette which was a problem for the cook, who loudly scolded the waitress for getting the order wrong. The manager then got involved because the cook went in to the office to complain and wanted to make sure that we were going to be charged more. ( the menu said $.99 but he wanted the waitress to charge more). He appeared to not know how to make a veggie omelette . My omelette came out yellow, rubbery and with egg whites inside - with egg shells. After a couple of crunchy, rubbery bites , I also noticed that the onions in my hash browns were raw, cup up , onions on top of my hash browns. We called over the waitress, who was still complaining to the manager that she didn’t make a mistake in our order, to ask her to please take my egg shells, rubbery food, and so not to trouble the cook more, just give me 2 eggs over easy and some hash browns. About 10 minutes later, the cook (spending several minutes sitting in the office), cooked my eggs and I was brought over a plate with only 2 eggs, (which were done properly and no egg shells). I had already gotten The hot cakes, which were done correctly. After about 10 more minutes, (watching the cook in the office, I wondered if I was ever going to get my hash browns), b finally the cook went back in to the kitchen and the waitress brought over my plate, explaining that the onions were now cooked. My husband had far passed eating his food and had I waited for the hash browns to eat my eggs, they would have been cold. In the end, the waitress brought us a bill charging for the veggie omelet that I didn’t eat and extra for the egg whites, that I also didn’t eat. We were happy to just get out of there , so we paid the extra money and left. $32 for this breakfast. I would have thought the manager would have been more helpful, apologized and or comped my meal. Not!! This is Not a place I would recommend. Too bad, because I grew up in Michigan (although I now live in Florida) and was excited about trying Big Boy again from my past. Rating this place a 2...
