We will always go for their Bluefin Truffle roll (see pic) and their Lion King Roll. Sometime it would take a while for orders to be ready but knowing it's freshly made and they have a small operating kitchen, it's understandable. We are willing to wait cuz it's worth it. I hope they will be expanding their business soon. 😉

Very good and fresh sushi. I’m not sure if I’m out of touch or what but the pricing seems a bit steep. $38 for 2 rolls seems high to me but at least it’s good. The location of the store is very convenient and there’s other food spots nearby in case someone in the family doesn’t want sushi.

Fish is sliced so thinly in the “salmon blossom roll” - there’s hardly any fish in this roll, but yet it costs $18 😂 I understand COVID is causing costs to skyrocket with ingredients, but this is absurd!

The last time I will spend a single dollar at Akemi. We've been going to Akemi since they opened in the marketplace years ago now. They were in our regular rotation of local restaurants that we support. Not because they are the best tasting sushi in town, but because we want to help our local restaurants survive and its convenient.

Last night was Valentines Day and we were told our order would be ready at 6:30pm. I arrived promptly and checked in. Unfortunately, our order was not ready and they pulled the ticket and started working on it, would take 20 mins. Fine, they're busy, I understand. I have a seat with a bunch of other people waiting. They stopped taking orders at some point and only a few people have picked up their orders since I arrived. 40 minutes later, I go back up to the counter. Turns out our order has been sitting there for about 20 mins. Not a peep from the staff. I didn't want to crowd around the front and bother them repeatedly. My mistake.

Now, if this were the first time this happened, I could let it go. The problem is, this exact scenario has happened multiple times now. Check in, food is ready, no one says anything. I guess were all supposed to go up and check every time we see an order placed on the counter.

They are consistently behind schedule. Order something to be picked up at 630, don't bother showing up for a least 10-15 minutes after your pick up time. At this point, with the amount of time I've wasted sitting and waiting for my order, I'll go elsewhere. The sushi is average at best. The rice has little to no flavor (and sometimes tastes old). Save yourself some time and go to a better...

After nearly leaving upon arrival as we learned there was only outside seating and had to change table several times to get warmth. We had reservations we decided to stay since it has been rated so highly. Should have gone with our first gut feeling. Seaweed salad good however didn't seem very fresh. Ordered beer not so cold. Order chicken appetizer room temperature and tons of breading hardly any chicken to speak of Then our Sashimi came wow I guess we're spoiled it was the smallest pieces we've seen since restaurants reopened. The Lion King roll was hardly warmed through and several pieces had crab shell. My husband said at least you know it was real crab ? I offered this info to the server/ hostess she said I'm sorry I'll tell the chef. It was the smallest Lion King role I have ever received at any Japanese restaurant laughable actually. The spider roll was a similar small size certainly not worth the $18 this restaurant is charging. We agree with other reviews here they are way overpriced. My husband and I dine out a lot and never leave tough reviews however we both decided this restaurant warranted our thoughts. Very disappointing especially when we used Google for the top sushi restaurant in Castro Valley. We clearly won't make this mistake again at the cost of over $100. Not one of the pictures on this site Port what they serve. If you are seeking great sushi try Senro or UKai in San Ramon. Outstanding food good prices and...

I happened to go to Castro Valley Marketplace today. I walked by and The sushi at Akemi looked fresh. The young lady at tge front said hello and asked if I had any questions about Akemi. I asked about the eel and some rolls. She was courteous and I ordered some delicious made-to-order sushi. The chef was prompt, professional in attire, and just as courteous as the young lady in front. I tasted the dragon roll. Delicious. Fresh. Beautifully presented. I'll be back soon! Nice experience with courteous polite service and delicious fresh...
