First of all I want to say that Black Bear Diner is my jam. I have always had great experiences, and absolutely amazing food. So when we were on our way back down the hill from snow country and saw a Black Bear Diner we thought nothing of it, and we're looking forward to it. First thing, this restaurant is LITTLE. Hands down the smallest I've seen of this chain. We also didn't see any tables - only booths. And they were very small booths. So beware of you have any girth to ya. It being a holiday (New Years) we figured that there would be a bit of a wait. We arrived at 11:45 and there was a 30 minute wait. No problem, we've had worse. So we are seated after waiting (we will call it 12:15) and are asked if we want drinks. We order our refreshing beverages and when they are brought to us also ask for straws. The straws, alas never arrived. Not a huge deal, so we let it go - they were busy. We order our food. Our waitress never checks on us, no drinks refilled, etc. We can see the cook line from where we sit and can see orders up and some sit there for several minutes before being retrieved. At 12:50 we see our order up on the line. Our waitress was helping a couple of other tables - they were busy. She eventually gets to our food and we are served at 1:00...an incomplete order. We request the missing items and she eventually gets them for us. And one of the ingredients that we asked to not be on the plate, had made it on the plate. Didn't want to make a huge deal - they were busy. We eat our meal fairly quickly, call it 1:20. We hadn't ordered anything huge. And we wait for the check. And wait, and wait...I keep trying to get our waitress to notice us, but she's tending to other tables and refilling coffee to other tables. Eventually I just ask another waitress walking by if we can get our check...and we get it at 1:35. But again - they were busy. We go up to pay and the one cashier is chatting with a gal who is paying so we stand and wait. Others stand to pay and then others come through the door to be seated. We eventually pay and leave 1:45. Clearly, they were unprepared and frazzled from how busy they were. Don't get me wrong, they were all absolutely delightful ladies. Smiles and all. I have nothing bad to say about attitude or personnel. The food was good too. I'm thinking they are short staffed or something. As are most places in the industry unfortunately. I can only speak for my dining experience and it...
Read moreI have a head to the Black bear diner in Auburn California and the first thing you notice can you get in there is the bear theme which is nice is the second he knows is the menus now the menus are presented like a newspaper style menu so you can read it like the newspaper or you can read it like in the menu which I I appreciate it because I didn’t get a chance to read the newspaper very often so it’s good to catch up on all the latest news. Also as a note it’s not the latest news it’s definitely an old news but still news all news is good news. So we ordered the breakfast menu items which were a very good deal for the amount of food that you get and it had eggs in it and I would recommend getting the pop-up burn hot sauce because of it really burns your mouth but I like that because I like hot things. Yeah I think it moving to mention about the menus it’s on the newspapers or like there’s a lot of and it’s actually kind a hard to pick just one of the items in the sub good which I think is a problem like I like I like West Adams I like clear winners but in this one they all looks pretty good I was hungry so I get to the long time to put the order in I feel embarrassed because the waitress give us a beer ready and we weren’t ready for a long time maybe 20 minutes to read the whole menu The whole menu and because of that it was embarrassing and we had to like isolate the best items and I took a long time. And the worst part was that they don’t put the desert on the newspaper menu it’s a different venue and if I had known I probably would’ve gotten some ice cream because I like ice cream. No it’s talk about the food I would’ve the scramble of some kind and it was tasty they put the color information on the menu which I think is a good thing if you can see how much you want to fill up the food but also you didn’t put you off ordering something stable of calories yeah this is a place that if you want calories you can definitely get calories but if you don’t want to eat all your food they are very nice and gave you takeout boxes see you can eat them in the car later which is what I might do right now interesting four stars...
Read moreIf you have any taste buds, go somewhere else. The service is backward. The cooks need cooking lessons. I know some folks cooking on a corner with better chef skills than what this Black bear diner hired. If I were inclined to revisit, I would call Chef Gordon Ramsay to whoop their lame cooking skills into shape. The client service interaction between the server and the customer is nonexistent. Very rushed and downright rude. She was lucky my wife was there; otherwise, zero tip for that performance or lack thereof.
My take on this place was it seems beautiful people are NOT their cup of tea. And that's based on their collective ugly behavior. She was very rushed with us and patient with others. Either she lacks customer service skills, or she needs a new job where she would be happy to work. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that the ownership/management runs their people down like abused and neglected dogs. And for those kinds, I wouldn't say I like those types. Either way, I won't spend another red cent here.
Black Bear Owners/Management, please work with your customer-facing staff to ensure they serve all paying customers with a smile and a lovely attitude; keep their problems at the door before they enter the workplace. Also, hire an accurate set of cooks. Vet their cooking skills before you hire them. Otherwise, your servers won't get tips, and you'll lose business...
