Frijoles Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in California

I'm not sure why this place is rated so highly. Is not often I get to meet up with my sister, so when an opportunity came up, we decided to meet. It was a last minute plan, so I didn't have much time to plan it properly. One thing we wanted, was to eat at a restaurant close to her. I came across a few restaurants, except this one stood out. First, it was highly rated, and based on the pictures, the place and the food looked good. Normally I would spend time actually dissecting and reading reviews, but I failed to do that this time. That is a huge regret, because we were all super disappointed. First of all, this restaurant does look nice, except when you sit in the patio, the floor is slanted. That it no big deal, but add the fact that this place is super expensive, and worse their food is horrible. I have ate at tons of Mexican places, and I can't think of many that were worse than this place. The food was super greasy, and could taste that the quality of ingredients wasn't good. As a reviewer, I tried several items, meats, dishes, etc., and there isn't one item I can say was good. We tried the pozole, different tortas, different meats, quesadillas, their beans, rice, chips, salsas, and more I'm probably forgetting. And again, not one thing was good, except maybe for the chips and the beer. The problem with the beer is that it was so expensive, I could easily compare the prices to high-end / popular places, and this wasn't either. This has to be one of the worse places I have eaten at, and I'd definitely not recommend it. Oh yeah, the service was horrible but not good either, so...

Been here a few times now and haven't been disappointed yet.

They have seating in the front and back. Have always been here for lunch and haven't had an issue with getting a table. Parking lot is shared with Thai Dishes. Cramped but workable.

Food has been outstanding every time I come and I've tried new things every time. Here are my recent favorites.

Chipotle shrimp enchiladas (5): I found my new favorite dish! Can't get over just how amazing their chipotle sauce is. So good! You can probably throw that sauce on anything and it'd be a winner. I ate all my rice and beans just trying to soak up that flavor. Amazing!

Alex III special burrito (5): it’s huge! Probably should have saved some to eat later but it was so good I ate it all! Served wet. Again, their sauce is amazing.

The way they char their meat paired with their amazing sauces make this place a winner. I’m not afraid to explore their menu since I know the flavor is gonna be there. Can’t say that about too many places....

Frijoles Mexican Restaurant exceeded all my expectations! Conveniently located close to LAX, it’s the perfect spot to grab a fantastic meal, whether you’re a local or just passing through.

I had the carnitas tacos and pozole, and both were absolutely incredible. The carnitas were perfectly seasoned, tender, and packed with flavor, served on fresh tortillas that elevated the dish to perfection. The pozole was rich, hearty, and comforting—a bowl of pure delight with just the right amount of spice and authentic homestyle taste.

The service was equally outstanding. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect from the moment I walked in. It felt like dining with family in the best way possible.
