I came in tonight to get a turkey mashed potato plate. It was good but I couldn’t quite finish it. I figured I wouldn’t be able to and was looking for someone to bring me a box. I didn’t want to leave my food while I went all the way to the front of the store to get one. I was afraid the busser would get my half eaten plate before I could get back to it. I thought the coast was clear for me to get a box so I went for it. On my way back I could see the busser coming to my table. I called to him to stop but he didn’t hear me because of the music being loud. Finally on the third time, I was louder and he heard me just as he was piling my napkins on top of my food. How disgusting is that to have someone touching your food with dirty gloves hands? I sat back down very annoyed and then here comes the assistant manager, I believe Joe was his name. I felt like he was going to make it right since he asked me if everything was ok. I told him what had happened and that I couldn’t get anyone’s attention to bring me a box. The asst mgr started to take up for his employees standing around and said they weren’t supposed to come ask people if they needed anything else or needed a box. If you’ve ever eaten at jacks, you know you almost always need a box. I’m not sure why the asst mgr even came to talk to me. He just made the matter worse and didn’t even offer anything to make it better. I left there frustrated and angry that I had paid for a peaceful meal, and got a speech about his philosophy of having his workers stand around doing nothing. Eating out is supposed to be a positive experience. It’s sad that a customer is not valued in this restaurant. But good thing customers have many choices, and I will be sure to exercise my choice...
Read moreWe went there last night. My fiance, daughter and I ordered sandwiches with fries, my daughter with mashed potatoes. My daughter received her potatoes first, and she sat there eating them and I figured they were going to bring everything else soon after. Well they brought over my sandwich after about 10 minutes, and the young lady whom said her name was Jayline or something along that line asked if everything was alright I told her no, I didn't like the fact the food was being brought out one at a time. She gave a look as if she couldn't believe I just said that. I told her we come to eat as a family and it just doesn't make sense to not bring all the order out. She said I should've said that when I paid and I told her I didn't realize I had to do that. She said she was going to check on the order but when she got to the door ( we were sitting outside) she looked back and gave me a dirty look and never returned! Someone else brought out the rest of the food at different times of course since I didn't say anything when I paid. I can tell you she must have something to the rest of the wait staff because we were avoided and looked at. The whole experience was not what I expected and I try to support Elk Grove businesses because I live here but we...
Read moreEating at Jack's is an Urban experience. To that end it is not like a typical or traditional restaurant.
To Crissy Stommel's complaint, yes the food will be brought out one at a time because there are different people making your entire order and each has a queue of food to make.
To Sheri Makihele's complaint, urban eating means NOT putting a changing station in the restrooms. That's not part of the urban vibe. The urban vibe is a hip and laidback atmosphere. This isn't Sizzler, Old Spaghetti Factory or Home Town Buffet; this is Jack's Urban Eats.
To Robin Wells' complaint, your review offers absolutely no reasons WHY someone should not waste their time or money at Jack's.
All that aside I will say from personal experience that the steak salad, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, cheese bread, and tri-tip plate are ALL great choices! If you're itching to try something really different check out the Urban Fries... but only if you don't care to watch your weight afterwards. ;)
P.S. The staff is hit or miss. Some are very nice, some are "rude", and others are too the point. Many of the staff have visible tattoos and piercing. This is all part of the urban eating experience. Ultimately you're there for the food and...
