I normally buy my cakes in San Francisco but trying to support local businesses. I had Mariaâs cakes before and I figured to just order a cake for my birthday this time around.
I came in on Saturday to pick up my cake. They have 2 lines, one for pre order and one for walk ins. Being that it was EMPTY, I felt going straight to the cashier would be ok. Instead I got a snippy response from the guy behind the register letting me know that next time I would come in to go to the âpre orderâ line. At first I was like HUH? There is no one here, why does it matter? I also can read and understand English, I did see the sign, but again NO ONE WAS THERE. Afterwords it started to settle in. Why was his comment necessary? If I was standing in line of it would have been busy, I understand. But it wasnât. It really boiled my blood that he said that, he must have some big ego to talk to people like that.
Well, youâve lost a customer. I would rather go to another bakery than go back to Mariaâs with their rude...
Read moreI was introduced to this bakery roughly 5 years ago and have been a regular since! Maria's pastries are hands down the BEST value for the money. They are a small bakery who put a lot of effort in their craft. I remember the days when they had less than 5 different types of pastries on display and not a lot of customers but today, there's a healthy selection of sweets to choose from and a line out the door! Their popularity is organic as i've never seen them advertise. Word of mouth has been the reason for success.
My personal favorite dessert is the W&D pyramid cake. It's not overly sweet and the presentation is great. They also have an insanely good chocolate "tres leches" cake that is heavenly. I've probably been here over a dozen times to buy pastries for celebrations and everyone loves it! I've ordered the cheesecake for my sister's birthday and it was perfect. Looks presentable and...
Read moreThis East Bay Local Bakery is a great place to visit if you are seeking something sweet and unique; from fresh baked cookies, Tiramisu, Flan, whipping cream and buttercream frosty cakes, to special orders for the larger baked goods.
Reasonably priced, friendly customer service, but not to sound racist, the business seems to cater more to local Hispanics (unfortunately a lot of foreign-owned businesses in El Sobrante are like this), so when I get my sweet craving, I am colorblind and just ignore the looks from the other Hispanic customers of why some white boy is coming in to purchase some of Maria's treats?......Because it is GOOD!!!
My wife (also Maria) and I visit Maria's Gourmet Pastries about once a month.
I recommend this place to all racists, races and folks like myself that are colorblind. Great Tasting Bake Goods. ...
