Stopped here to have some breakfast. I had my headphones on prepared for the louder than I care for music. The server asked me a couple of questions and seemed annoyed for repeating herself. I guess she got over it when she realized I could hear, I was just hard of hearing. The music was loud, but not as loud as most other restaurants. The server was nice, checking on me a reasonable number of times. The food was good. I ordered country fried steak, one of my usuals for breakfast. The steak was actual steak and not some factory cut dredged in batter. The eggs were cooked a little more than over medium, but I still had some runny yolk. Nothing special about the toast. I asked for extra butter, and I don't feel that's what I was given. I am confident that it was some form of margarine. It was pasty white, almost flavorless and left an oily after sensation. Condiments were on the table. I thought it was special having syrup in random bottles. I would visit this place again if I am in the area. If you are traveling and want good food and a bit of nostalgia, stop in.
I should mention I didn't bother to look at the full menu as I was told breakfast was the only option, unless you wanted a burger or...
Read moreInconsistent. Had to get up to ask for something they forgot on my order. Didn't want to get up again to ask for more coffee so I didn't. I'm a seriously patient person so that was really strange.
Breakfast is always good. Service blows about half the time which is par for course in Santa Maria. Don't you people work for tips here too?
Tri tip sando is kids sized and always overcooked. Order rare if you want to see any pink in your meat.
Came in while the place was dead at 3pm on 1/11/16 and our waitress disappeared on us. The hostess seemed nice at first then had a really bad attitude and cursed while walking around the establishment. Couldn't tell you what our waitress looked like. Apparently she bounced to look at a new condo before we got food. Things happen, but when I ask for stuff give it to me. Your job is to serve me, then I tip you well and come back. And when you leave to take care of important life things... Tell someone to top off my coffee! And if your having a bad day just tell me! I understand! Don't walk by me pissed off and cursing...
Three stars doesn't seem like much but this is about as good as it gets for me...
Read moreIt’s been years since I’ve been here. Back when I pulled a reefer I was running through this area a couple times a month and always enjoyed Pappy’s. Yesterday was one of “those” days. Multiple deliveries from Pam Desert going up to Napa. I was tired, hungry, and frustrated. I saw the Betteravia exit sign and wondered if that awesome restaurant was still there beside the truck stop. I was really happy to see Pappy’s still there and open. I parked, called and placed an order. The really nice gal on the phone said it would be ready in about 15 minutes. I walked over within 10 minutes and it was ready. The food was well packaged so nothing spilled, a complete set of utensils and a generous amount of napkins were in the bag (the good napkins, too). I ordered the tri-tip dinner with a salad and I ate every bite of it all. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and absolutely delicious. The mashed potatoes were real (not instant). The salad was very fresh. I cannot wait to go back through Santa Rosa so I can eat here again. Fantastic place, homey atmosphere, very friendly people, and...
