Tato’s Mexican Grill & Cantina — Restaurant in California

Their food is good, and no denying that. However, the customer service is terrible, and for that alone, I would not come back.

An individual in our group is vegetarian for religious reasons, so they can not have anything that has even touched meat. This individual wanted soup. All of the soup options on the menu have meat in it, so we asked the waitress if there were any options for a vegetarian soup. She told us that they could make the chicken soup without the chicken. The way she said this made it sound as though they were willing to make a vegetarian soup. This sounded like a great solution, so we took her up on that.

Once our food arrived, we discovered that there was chicken in the soup! We brought that to our waitress' attention, and she said, "Oh, they must have forgot to pick out that piece of chicken" ... all of our jaws dropped at this. We sent the soup back to the kitchen because clearly it was not what we asked for. And we ordered something else.

Before leaving, we asked to speak to a manager so that we could explain what happened so that this mistake would not happen with someone else in the future. Our waitress brought over the bartender (I am assuming there wasn't a manager there) ... and this bartender came over ... not to listen to our concerns, but to argue with me about how there are no vegetarian soups (a bit late for that information). I feel that she even insulted my ability to read by saying that there aren't any vegetarian options listed on the menu! (This is why we asked because there aren't any listed!)

After arguing with me and not listening to a word I had to say, our waitress brought over our bill, and they still charged us for the soup we sent back to the kitchen.

Update, I decided to call them the next day, hoping to speak to a manager, and I was told that the manager was not there and they "just popped in." So which one was it; is the manager not there, or did they "just pop in?" Once I tried to find out when a good time to call back would be, she was very rude and hung up the phone on me.

I never leave negative reviews for any establishment, but I have never been treated this way in all my years of dining out. I definitely did not feel...

Absolutely fantastic!! I've never been treated which such hospitality at any restaurant! The greeter who greeted us, and took us to our table was so friendly, welcoming, happy, and sweet! She was even nice enough to ask if we would like the TVs turned on, in the section we sat. She greeted us with a big smile, and really made us feel welcomed! She was so friendly! We were seated, and had the absolute BEST waitress ever!! Her name was MARIA!! She was outstanding!! She went above, and beyond to make sure our dinner was fantastic!! She was very friendly, had a beautiful smile on her face all the time, she was very attentive, and checked on us often, she made sure drinks were always full, and made sure to ask how everything was throughout our meal, and if we needed anything. She was very patient, and welcoming. She made our family feel so comfortable, and valued as guests here! She was quick to take our drink, appetizer, and food order. We never needed anything, she was on it! She brought out our food, and drinks quickly, and made sure everything was perfect. She was so sweet, happy, and nice! You can sure tell Maria takes great pride in her job, and her customers! She was truly AMAZING, and such a pleasure to be around! We hope when we return, we are lucky enough to have Maria as our waitress again! She was really the best, great waitress, great personality, and she was always working hard! If not at our table, she was attending to others in her section, cleaning tables, doing it all. We never had to look for her, or want for anything during our visit. She made our night! Dynamic personality, and impeccable customer service skills! Thank you Maria!! We hope to see you again soon. We will definitely be back often! The food was cooked to perfection!! Very tasty, hot, flavorful, and great large portions! The drinks were also outstanding!! I wish I could give this restaurant, and their wonderful staff 100 stars! Thank you!...

This restaurant opened early this year and we Were excited to try it after running some errands around town.

The outside was very clean and upon entering the fans were on to cool us from the outside heat wave.

The waiter was nice but not attentive when it came to asking for drink refills or chips. I can see service slow with a packed crowded but there was only 4 families when we entered.

Here you have to ask for chips and salsa.  The chips were bland but not outdoned by their salsa, which was watery and had "no taste at all!"  I'll leave it at that.

I ordered the crispy taco combination platter. It took awhile to receive our meals which looked appealing upon arrival.  The rice was somewhat hard, had no flavor, and tasted like it was prepared the day before.

My beef taco had no flavor and the beef was dry, not moist!  The shell was hard and chewy and with the dry bits of beef just tough.  The refried beans were okay but weren't home made and honestly tasted like the store bought variety.  Overall I was really disappointed in the meal and service.

My wife's order came with flour tortillas which arrived "after we received our bill!?" "Really!?"

I can understand restaurants struggling to get out during these hard covid times but there's no excuse for bad table service or the bland meals we received.  "A little salt also goes along way in flavor...."
