Stopped in for a late, for me, lunch recently. The food is okay, nothing special, but I'd was severely underseasoned to the point that it bordered in bland. There wasn't any hint of salt at all. That wouldn't be as big an issue if there were salt and pepper shakers on the tables. At the very least a small plate with those small packets of S&P would've been appreciated. The other issue, and personally I think the bigger offense, is that when the plates were put under the broiler to melt the cheese on the beans they were left to long to the point that the rice and the top of the beans were dried out. The portions are smaller than you'd get at almost every other restaurant I can think of. They're not small but any means. It's actually a welcome change because you will leave satisfied and not with that bloated "I are way too much" feeling. The service is slow, which is surprising considering there was one other table the day I stopped by. The atmosphere was meh. That's too be expected considering it wasn't busy at all. But having said that, I would stop by again and give it...
Read moreWow! If you're looking for truly authentic, delicious and affordable Mexican food, look no further than Antojitos Lucero. This place is an absolute gem! The first thing you must know is about the hand-made tortillas. They make them fresh every Saturday and Sunday, and you can absolutely taste the difference! They are soft, warm, and the perfect base for everything. I can't stop thinking about the birria—it was superb! Tender, deeply flavorful, and easily some of the best I've ever had. We also made sure to share a variety of tacos, including Asada (steak), Pastor (pork), and more of that amazing birria (shredded beef). Every single meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Seriously, no dry or chewy meat here! To top off an already incredible meal, we also had the churros with a side of both chocolate and caramel sauce. Amazing! You can truly taste the freshness in every bite 🤤 they were crispy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside. From the incredible food to the fresh ingredients, Antojitos Lucero is a...
Read moreNot even a half star on this review. They catered an Oxnard high school reunion I attended, the food was the worst. The salad was just greens from Costco. No addition of tomatoes or onions, or anything at all, the mashed potatoes from the box had no salt whatsoever and they didn’t carry salt for you to add to them. The vegetables were soggy and had so much garlic, the chicken was dry and the beef meat, heaven only knows what cut of beef it was but it was so tough you could barely chew it. The reunion was like a 60th or 65th reunion so people with dentures and false teeth probably just left it all on their plate.. about the only thing edible was the store-bought dinner roll with butter. The bottled water that was paid for was not put out for people to enjoy until the very end of the service...
