Long story short:

I got bored and reckless a couple of weeks ago, and ended up trying to bleach my hair with peroxide and baking soda. UHHHVV course, it turned orange.

Had it gone teal, I might have rocked it for a while...anyway, I needed help if I was ever going to be able to take myself seriously again in a mirror.

I spent some time researching salons in my area - Camarillo - and the reviews pointed me to Glamour. I reached out, left a message, and less than five minutes later I was scheduling my in-person consult with Yaretd via text. It gave me a good feeling, that they insisted on doing their due diligence, talking with me face-to-face, examining my hair type, condition, and scalp to screen for possible sensitivities; all so they can advise on the best - and healthiest - course of action for me. She also asked me to bring in some photos of what I was going for.

Yaretd did all of that in my consultation. I could tell that she is very knowledgeable, measured, detail-oriented, and skilled in her craft. After taking my assessment, she offered some possibilities. I figured if the orange could come out, that I'd try for the blonde I was originally going for.

Upon hearing this, she didn't b.s. me: my hair had already been through a lot, and though it was possible bleaching it further could work, she couldn't advise going super strong on it. Too much could burn my hair and scalp. I opted to cross my fingers and proceed with the milder concentration of bleach (which she had told me beforehand could still leave some orange), and off to the shampoo bowl we went.

I had requested a trim as well, so she did that first, and I loved it! She heard me, and knew exactly what I was going for. Yaretd was super meticulous as she mixed the bleach (she was weighing the components on a digital scale as she mixed them, which was pretty cool - again, to see how careful and skillful she was being with my hair and scalp), and the same as she applied it. There was no haphazardly slopping it all over; I could tell she had "mapped" my head and was taking it on in segments at a time.

It definitely lightened it a lot - and really didn't burn at all, which was great. This time, though, it skewed yellow!

"My bad. That's the breaks, kid. I took a shot, and I missed it. Can't win 'em al--" my acceptance of my circumstances was interrupted by Yaretd, who told me that if I didn't like it, I could notify her within seven days and get another try at it for free! Now, that's the real thing, people.

Took me all of two hours to text her and request my 'do-over. I'm a tall guy, so the yellow was making me feel more Big Bird than punk rock glory days. She scheduled another appointment a couple days out (had to let my feathers rest a bit first), which turned out to be just as cool as the first. I was going for dyeing it ash blonde (my natural color). However, Yaretd told me we could get the same result from using a toner, and with less stress on my hair. She explained that it is semi-permanent, but lasts many, many washes. Considering I only shampoo a couple times a week, that's months of color that won't further irritate my scalp the way a straight-up dye could.

Over the next forty minutes, I learned even more about hair and haircare, and I saw Big Bird turn back into that handsome guy I knew before I got bored and reckless that fateful day a couple of weeks ago. It looks and feels like my hair again

Next time I get bored with my hair, I think I'll call on Yaretd and Glamour Salon before I get to the point of recklessness.

I just wanted to say I love this Glamour Salon! I’ve known Kellie for many years and after 20 plus years that has gone by I decided it was time to have her fix my hair up! Kellie is AMAZING at what she does! Very particular and very much a perfectionist! She knows her stuff.. takes pride in her work! You will not be disappointed! She is awesome! I also would like to take the time to reflect on the atmosphere and the commodity of this salon. I walked into salon just to say hi to Kellie, I was welcomed by such kindness from the others. Kellie then introduced me to the owner Yaretd.. wow what a beautiful person! She made me feel right at home and so genuinely sweet! If you are looking for a new salon this would be at top of my list for you to try! Five stars...

I have been going to Jessica for close to a year and half now. She is awesome! She is always very attentive, remembers my likes and dislikes, style, etc. when it comes to my hair. She is always on time, professional and very fun to talk to making my overall experience very pleasant. I’ve never really liked the process of getting my haircut but since I started with Jessica it’s something I look forward to rather than dreading like I used to.
