Mister Softee — Restaurant in Camarillo

So this is only my second review as I didnt ever think they were necessary, until this week and previous weeks vs last week. WOW! What a difference a personality and smile makes. Ok, so here is my review and opinion. I love Mister Softee and the service we receive from the trucks, and in the stores that i have visited (both Ventura and Camarillo). Recently the truck appeared at my work place here in Newbury Park, so you can only imagine how happy I was to share my experiences with my coworkers. The first few weeks, the service was WONDERFUL, we all loved it and were happy to hear that this was going to be a new weekly thing. We looked forward to Tuesday every week, except for last week when the service was complete trash. What a rude young lady to say the least! Fortunately this week our original soft serve driver was back and wow, what a thrill to see Lauren (I can remember her name but for the life of me I chose not to remember the name of the rude and arrogant one from last week). Please be sure to keep Lauren on our route, as we really enjoy your ice cream and services, but will most likely opt not to flag down your truck if we see the other one again. Sorry, we ALL just felt that you deserve to know who is representing you well and who isnt. 1 poor experience definitely outweighs countless great ones, and i apologize for not sharing our wonderful experiences earlier and our poor one last week, but this week made up for it. Kudos to you for recognizing who brings the smiles to your customers faces and sending Lauren out to service our business and plaza again. Trust me, our shop and others did discuss the differences in service and character. Sorry if I put this is multiple places, I wasnt sure which listing to do it under and wanted to be sure I was heard. I will happily change this to 5+ stars once we all know we are appreciated and our opinion is heard and validated. This was our first visit. We were very excited to try Mister Softee. Unfortunately our experience was not very good. First let me say the staff was very friendly and accommodating. However, The first thing we noticed when walking thru the door was the extremely strong scent of PineSol. While I appreciate being clean, the aroma of PineSol is so strong, it hits you as soon as you walk in. Also, the person who took our order made an error and an extra cone was made that was not ordered. Now mistakes happen, and that is fine, no issue there. They refunded the amount with no hassle at all. But when placing the order, they only give you a number for your order and no itemized receipt, so we were not able to verify the items ordered. We thought the amount was high, but had no way to check, otherwise we would have corrected the order before the 3rd cone was made. The ice cream itself lacked flavor. And the choc dip with almonds also was very bland. The waffle cones are not made fresh, in fact they the same “Joy” brand of cones you can get at Vons. And even with the strong PineSol aroma, the tables were sticky. Lastly, the place is just not tidy. There are a bunch electrical extension cords run along the wall edges in a very hap hazard fashion. I love Mister Softee. We first found out about this place because my buddy was trying to find a place that made malts for a lady. Whilst looking he found Mister Softee and we decided to give them a try. I have to say there was no disappointment but exceeded expectations.

Place is a little small but serves the purpose for an ice cream place as having a bigger place would not make sense. They have plenty of sitting areas.

I ordered a sea salt caramel vanilla malt. Please make sure that you remind them to add the malt as it seems that this is not a common request. I have also tried their chocolate sea salt malt. Both of these have been delicious and have not disappointed. We are in this place all the time and we love it. Last time we were there, the owner was there and was preparing orders and also cleaning tables. Please visit Mister Softee and try their malts or any ice cream for that.

Please note that prices are high for ice cream but they are high wherever you go. This definitely doesn’t excuse the prices as I believe they are way over priced. Two malts will cost you $13.00. Staff is hit and miss but do love the manager as she is always on top of things and very helpful and accommodating.
