This used to be my family’s go-to sushi spot in Camarillo for the last 10+ years. Unfortunately, new ownership has completely ruined this restaurant. The new head sushi chef is very unprofessional, he didn’t greet us upon seating at the sushi bar and refused to take our order, saying we had to order from the waitress instead, very uncommon for sushi bars. Then, the appetizers were brought out in the wrong order, our actual sushi took 40+ minutes to get to us (despite the restaurant not being crowded). The service was horrible as well, we could tell that the servers were new, poorly trained, and didn’t know what they were doing. I had to ask multiple times for water, wasabi, and ginger. The server told me they couldn’t make a lobster hand roll, which turned out to be incorrect. She seemed extremely overwhelmed and frustrated.
The ambiance is very dark and dingy, with no decorations whatsoever. The roll quality and creativity is also very poor. The only positive thing I can say about Sushi Planet now, is that the nigiri seemed to be decent quality compared to the rolls.
Unfortunately, we won’t be returning...
Read moreThe food here is great, but the service we received was terrible. We ordered the Garlic edamame, Touchdown Roll (tempura shrimp, assorted seafood, eel sauce, tempura bits), and Happy Roll (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, eel). All of these were delicious! But sadly that's about all the good there was. Terrible service seemed to be the theme of the night. We of the 3 groups of 2 that we're waiting, the wait staff pulled the newest group to be seated. When the hostess was notified she looked frustrated and apologized for that, but didn't do much else for the remaining 2 groups left. When we were seated it took a bit before we were able to even place a drink let alone food order. While waiting it was evident that all the tables around us had orders that were forgotten or missed. The table that seemed to have been there the longest had at least 3 things they ordered but never came.
Despite the service, I will give this place another shot on a different day, if only for that...
Read moreMade dinner reservations in advance for a party of seven. I told them at that time that there were four tall men 6'2 up to 6'5 and two heavy women and a senior. Asked for a large table and not to be crammed into a small table in a corner. When we arrived they'd split us into two different small tables. That was the last time we ever came to Sushi Planet. We called Bandits across the street and asked if they could accommodate a large party at the last minute, and they did. So we walked across the street and had a great meal at a nice, comfortable, normal table for seven adults. We don't have time to play around with these little hole in the wall restaurants that scrimp and save at the expense of the customer and especially that don't care enough to honor a request for a large party or large people (not...
