Sadly I have to change my review today. Upon visiting Snapper Jack's I learned that the owners have implemented an upcharge on salsa. Now customers can only get 1 2oz cup of salsa with their meal. Any additional salsa costs $0.25 per cup. They cite the increased cost with labor. I find this a bit hard to believe since their competition doesn't seem to be having the same issues. Baja Fresh, Chipotle, El Pollo Loco, and Sharky's seem to have no issue packing up salsa for their customers.
If we do some rough math to figure out the cost that is being added, things look suspicious. I'm assuming the new position of dedicated salsa scooper is a minimum wage position at $14.00 per hour. At a $0.25 upcharge said salsa scooper would only need to scoop 56 cups of salsa per hour to warrant the charge being added. Anything additional would be pure profit for the owners.
This leads to two likely realities. 1. The Taco Shack's management is terrible and completely incapable of seeing to effective workflows. 2. The owners are extremely greedy and they are using the pandemic as a cover to gouge their customers. Either way I won't be going back anytime soon and I can't give them a...
Read moreI stopped by Snapper Jack's Taco Shack in Camarillo for lunch and had a pretty good experience overall. The place was definitely clean, and I appreciated how spacious it was inside—plenty of room to sit and relax. One of the highlights was the salsa bar, which had a ton of options. My personal favorite was the tomatillo salsa, and I also really enjoyed the little fruit salsa/salad they had available.
I ordered a shrimp burrito. It was decent—I'd give it a solid 7 out of 10. The main issue was that it was packed with rice—like, a lot of rice—with just a few pieces of shrimp and very little cabbage. It wasn’t bad, just a bit unbalanced in the filling.
My friend got a chicken quesadilla and said it was delicious.
All in all, it’s a good spot, and I’d probably give it another try to see how things are on a second visit. I’ll update this review...
Read moreGreat decor. A typical southern Cal eclectic themed venue. Surf boards on the walls, pictures of people you would never hand out with, and one too many reminders of your college days. Too be clear the location is great. The indoor/ outdoor seating option is welcomed especially in southern California. What is not the high light is the food. You know how you go to Taco Bell because you saw one of their cheesy commercials and in spite of your previous experience you still go? This not Mexican food by any stretch. This is A- typical tourist fare with all of the related optics of Mexican fare but none of the flavor...
